Default New West-sider

Hey all, I just stumbled onto this site, felt a good vibe from the active forum, and signed right up. I moved out here a year and a half ago from New Hampshire. I’ve always been a rider but I’ve really gotten into it since I got a D.S. bike and got addicted to the terrain out here.

I’m also glad to see from the forum there are some women riders here too since my girlfriend often rides with me and would probably appreciate hitting the trail with other lady riders. We both ride at least once a weekend, often twice (although, sometimes road rides to switch it up) For example, last weekend we did the epic, picturesque, Strawberry Peak loop to Top-of-Red Box (or is it Gabrielino) down to Switzer, up along route 2 above Pasadena -- just to give you some idea what riding I like. I also do a night ride every Wednesday night with a group that meets out here on the West Side but so far my GF stays away from that one -- which is fine with both of us.

If I can convey one thing to anyone reading this it’s that I’d like to find a fun crew, hopefully around my age, who does regular weekend rides. I’m 28, know very few people in the new city, so it wouldn’t be a bad bonus if I (or we) made a few friends in the process to share beers with after a ride. Back in college --which I painfully miss--I made my best buds with people who dug the same things I did.

I’ll keep an eye on the forum or for message to see if any rides come together. West-siders, especially, give a shout. I can’t ride Saturday since a night-ride buddy of mine twisted my arm into trying out a mtn bike race in Fontana. We’ll see how that goes. First and foremost, I just dig trail riding whenever I can. Peace - jesse

Welcome, fellow westsider.... I'll start posting more rides in the area now that the westside contingent is growing (isn't it?).

I ride in the SM's a lot during the week, try to find something a little more remote/longer/exciting on the weekends.

Welcome to the Westside! My wife and I ride with a group that I think you and your GF would fit in with. We're all a bit older than you - early 40s on average, but I'd say we're competent riders who also enjoy the post-ride activities like good beer and grub. The regular group includes four "couples", so there are usually other females in attendance on the rides. Shoot me an email if you'd like to be added to my ride invitation list:

Scorns, thanks for the heads-up. Maybe I'll run into someone from the forum up in Fontana.

Burner, thanks for the fellow West-sider shout out. Yeah, I'll keep an eye out for rides. Like I said, I do the night ride every wendnesday night but my schedule is quite flexible (work from home) so I could get in another ride or two during the week if I got motivated. I normally just brave the roads with the road bike once or twice mid-day to keep the legs moving but I'm cheating death everytime. And same here regarding weekends: SMs are mostly my weekday playground, but I try to go farther away on weekends. We'll have to meet up for a ride sometime. - jesse

welcome aboard jesse... Jim is a really nice guy and strong rider... i've been lucky enough to ride with some of his friends and they're all really cool and fun to ride with. I'd definitely hook up with his group for a ride.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone, hope to see you all on the trail one of these days. I was out last night doing a nice mtn ride in the Santa Monicas. If anyone's curious, we rode up from Santa Monica and 26th, up Sullivan Canyon, down the Sullivan singles, goat trail back over to Sullivan canyon, then down a sweet private horse trail that's only passable at night, then down to the bar for a couple beers.

Just emailed Jim, and for the rest of you all, I'll see you in the forums, or on the trail. Let's build up that west-sider contingent.

0grav - if you guys are ever interested in heading south for a ride hit me up. Hubby and I are close to your age (he's a little older, I'm a little younger), but we ride in the Santa Ana mountains (between OC and Riverside) basically every weekend.

Jim - when's the next Chilao ride?? Justin and I would love to ride that area again. I'm still slow, but I can do 30+ miles now without dying BTW, don't do it around Vision Quest and I'm in! (Or Superbowl Sunday.)

Hey, Allison. We'll probably head back to Chilao the next weekend we see some unseasonably warm temps. It's always a great ride.
