I'm a brand spankin' new socal transplant. I've been here about two weeks after trekking cross country from philly. I almost didn't make it after stopping off in albuquerque and flagstaff. I pulled my bike out of the uhaul and got some pretty epic riding in before jumping back in the car and continuing west. I'll be sure to post pics once I get around to it.
I'm currently living in HB and working in Carlsbad (don't ask about the commute), but I'll likely be moving farther south in a couple of months. So far, I've only gotten a couple of riding days in at Moro and came out of there with a nice big grin on my face after admiring the views, burning my lungs on the climbs and scorching my brake pads on the rattlesnake trail, I learned to ride on rocks back east so it felt great. Anyway, before moving here I had a 4-5 ride per week addiction and I do all sorts or riding from XC racing to DH, but my favorite riding is still what you might describe as aggressive all mountain (that sounded dumb even as I typed it). I look forward to crashing some group rides in the near future and maybe even pulling my FR bike out of storage for a ride or two to bring on the rad. |

Thanks for the offer Pacman, I work the normal 8-5 but I get the feeling that the company I work for is fairly lenient with business hours.
Along those lines, I would love some reccomendations for nightriding in socal. I did see that Moro closed at sunset and may not be happy to have bikers up there after dark. I'm really itching to get my weekday fix and don't want to wait until the time changes. I read up on Noble from mtbr and I definitely plan on checking it out along with several other trails. I also read the drama associated with Flightline (my condolences) which is unfortunate since my work is basically accross the street. Basically I plan to ride as many trails as possible then decide where I want to live that will have a more appetizing commute. |

See you around!

There's still lots of trails in the Carlsbad area. Lake Calaveras is lots of fun. Daley Ranch is good, but a bit far for a lunch time ride--20 minutes from where you work. Lake Hodges is easy but still fun--makes a good night ride.

I love the geoladders site, never seen anything so detailed before, should be very helpful.
Thanks for the heads up on the carlsbad area trails, I'll hopefully to hit one of them up tomorrow night, just got to get the hid charged up. C- you're right about beantown being boston, I grew up there but I had been living in philly for the last couple of years. Not that anybody would go there on purpose, but should anybody be stuck up in the northeast say for business, I could hook you up with people/places to ride from NH to DE if you like rocks, roots and mud that is. |

Most guys here would be somewhat in your class of riding. While you're still up this way, you might want to check out some of the San Gabriel rides. Strawberry, Chilao, Chantry, Upper/Lower Winter Creek, Merrills and a few others. If you see the rides posted it means it's an open invitation. Hope to ride with you soon. ![]() |
