Default Hi all, ANOTHER newbie

But, I did meet a couple of you on Saturday. Kudos to those that rode, I was blistering in the heat of the shade doing support for a crazy solo rider. Here's my ride report:

I'm not crazy, so instead of attempting the 24 Hour of OC, I did a road ride. I finished riding through the canyon by 9am and was already starting to melt.

For the 24 Hour, I hung out by camp (close to the STR, but without the tiki torches, in the company of MANY bugs) with my daughter and dopey dog (the one in boots). We sauntered down, with my singlespeed, to the finish line on occasion to help out my crazy bf, shaking our heads each time....you guys are all nuts!

Congrats on taking the challenge.

Rachel

Thanks for joining and welcome to the family.

Rachel,

why did John quick racing so early? I remembered seeing him at some point. Then while going through the results last night, I noticed he stopped way early.

J-He had a bit of a mechanical issue....

To everyone else, thanks for the welcome, hope to meet the rest of you on a ride/race/something. Are you guys up for another 24Hr race?

I remember your dog with those little boots as I rode by. I didn't know if I was really seeing a cute little dog in boots or the sun was baking my head...

that dog in the boots was wayy cooolll!! I remember that pup.

I like that idea of a 12 Hour Twilight race. This last 24 really got me amped on endurance racing. Maybe I shoulda built up a Flux instead of a 5spot. Nahhh I like 5 hoot hucks too much!

Remember, we have the Switchback Cyclery 6 hr of OC coming up on Oct. 21. This will be sprint for all you that did the 24hr.

With the current flood of 12 & 24hr events, it is tough to get the turnout. Plus the manpower it takes to put these on is tough.

We will be having a club meeting to discuss what events we will be doing next year.

Honestly......race day was the easiest part of the 24hr event. It was the 3 weeks preceeding the event that tested everyone's nerves.

Chris was telling us as we were coming back in that he doesn't think the WS will be doing this one again. To much work and to little reward for everyone. I personally think it would just take some time and the people would eventually come out, like they do for the Vision Quest. True we are being inudated with these endurances races at this time, but it looks like we may soon be down to one or two in the near future. Granny Gears 24 hour race is a good one, but it's a loser for them. 24HOA is still having financial difficulties and could possibly stop at anytime. If these go there won't be really anything local for a 24 hour event. Then we will be doing our racing far from home.
