Default New to MTN Biking and this Site

I'm a roadie (please don't boo and hiss) who just bought a mountain bike and have hit dirt only a few times so far. I'm a total newbie who doesn't know jack, but I'm willing to try it out. I've also only ever ridden on the Tarzana fire roads. I'm going to lurk around here a bit as it seems a cool place to check out.

Welcome. There are a lot of great people on this site who will be happy to teach you about MTB. There is a good crew up in your area.

Thanks, BM.

Yes, I find that those who love to mtn bike love to share and I'm all over that! A sweet guy took me down a singletrack this past weekend. I didn't make it far without falling and had to walk most of it, but I really appreciated his attempt to get me down it. I have a lot to learn!

Women riding solo tend to get a lot of attention from male MTB'ers. My wife meets so many more people when she rides by herself than when she rides with me...

Stay safe out there.

I don't ride solo! I'm too scared to do that, honestly.

from Murrieta. Hope to hear more about your adventures. Have fun and be careful. A word of wisdom, don't let anyone get you in over your head as you're learning the "off road techniques." It seems like we've had a bunch of serious injuries as of late.

i like riding out in chesebro out in agoura hills when i'm out that way... there are some fun singletrack and fireroads that are not too extreme that a newbie won't have a hard time out there.. it can get hot out there tho... wait you're from the valley so you're used to it by now...

funny you say that. I tried my first single track and just walked when I had too. The man who took me down it is very experienced and was very patient. I think he thought I could handle it when in fact, I couldn't for sure! So, for some time going forward, I'm sticking to fire roads and easier trails.

I'll check both out. As for heat...yeah, I'm very use to it and I hate it! I typically try to ride early.

Thanks for the sweet welcome! You guys ARE super nice.

As for an obsession - I'm already hooked on cycling in general. This is just another way to get a "fix."
