My folks live in Bonsall near Olive Hill Road and Puerta del Sol. If I ever get down there, I'll PM you for a ride in my folk's avocado grove. I made a little loop trail around their grove and lake. It's pretty cool.

from Murrieta ...

There is a great "beginner friendly" ride up at the Santa Rosa Plateau. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

From Oceanside!!!

Post up rides or look up rides in the calandar. There are plenty of newbie rides and many people here willing to encourage group riding. Have fun.

I think I'm the "not super fast" person Justing is referring to

I started at the SRP and moved up to vail - get some laps in and build up your confidence at SRP - I would be glad to head out there anytime....

Default Thanks!!

Hey thanks everyone!

I never expected this great of a response ... so from what everyone is saying ... go for the plateau first ... get some miles under my belt ... (I just bought a bike ... I have not ridden one since I was 10!!!!!) I really meant newbie ... and work my way up to vail! Thanks to those that said to pm them ... I will do so after work ... have to get back to work for now!

Thanks,

Aimee

Definitely start out at SRP, and ride with others willing to go slow and help you out.

Once you want a bit of challenge hit up something a little more difficult/longer.

Don't rule out Daley Ranch (LOTS of fire road climbing) for fitness (you can walk what you can't ride), and even trips to OC every now and then for beginner rides!

I'm thinking of a warmup ride at SRP sunday before heading to vail - I'll post a ride if I can clear my schedule.....

Justin I'm in for that round next thursday!! As Justin mentioned riding with a faster group for me has been really motivating, helps you learn, and also provides a crowd to cheer you up the last tough part of the hill. Having a friendly and accomodating group also helps!

I live in Bonsall. Not sure how many 5pm after work rides I could swing (I typically get home after that)--but I'll keep my eye out for posted rides and try to make the ones that work out.

Do you know of anything that's actually in Bonsall or immediate area? There's some stuff in Fallbrook...I haven't really had a chance to go exploring around me, though I suspect there isn't much/anything that isn't pvt property.

Here's a ride in Fallbrook: http://www.mountainbikebill.com/SMaRT.htm. I did a very small portion of this once, but had to quit due to a mechanical. It looks like a fairly easy ride and it's close to Bonsall. I'd be up to exploring it again.
