Welcome. If you're a true newbie, those trails there are a bit more than you would want to start with. The climbs are tough for most newbs.

Welcome! If you are really a newbie and don't mind traveling a little here is the next newbie ride...

Marshall Canyon Newbie Ride

It is a great way to meet people and a good way to learn from them as well.

hey, greg o. i live in costa mesa and usually ride laguna coast/el moro every week. there are tons of possibilities for rides at any level. i'll probably be out there today or tomorrow. pm me if you want to go...also, talbert preserve (both sides of victoria) is a good local spot just to work on some skills.

As a newbie, I would recommend you hit the Fullerton Loop. Also, check out Peter's Canyon, Irvine Regional Park and the wash at Santiago Oaks. Those canyon rides you mentioned may be a little too much for you.

Hey Dood Welcome. You should check out El Morro off of Newport Coast Hwy up Ridge park. I ride up their all the time. I may ride their today I can show you around if you like? Whatever you don't feel comfortable riding down just walk it.

You'll find lots of support around here on everything...being a new dad, new rider, beer recommendations...we have it all and then some.

Welcome to a great site. I'm gonna be a new father in a couple weeks. You should come down to the Sunday morning Fullerton Loop ride, it is a good time and very newbie friendly. Look forward to seeing you out on the trails.
