As for the big bikes on the same trails as hikers, that's a hard one. I will admit that I have taken part in building some trails that are, shall we say, "off-chutes" of other trails, only to have hikers begin to use these as primary hiking trails, claiming that the trails have existed for years. I don't argue with them, I do however, continue to ride the big bike on trails with hikers, simply because there aren't always other options. Trail etiquette is especially important to remember on any of our local trails, after all, there are 10 million people living in LA county alone!
kind of like when you came out and me and you approached those guys taking down our jumps and ladders

Hey I was just wondering if the shuttle will be available this saturday and what time(s) it will be going up. We should have a group of about 4 people. Thanks.

I don't care how good the trail is, if I rode it twice a week it would bore me. Props to him if he can hang with it. Maybe he breaks it up with runs down Mt Wilson Trail, Upper Winter Creek Trail or Sturtevant Trail.

I have no idea WHY people keep bumping this thread?

1) Dave "caught heat" for starting the thread (2007)
2) Dave DELETED his email and telephone number a few days after he started this thread
3) Continued discussion of The Shuttle can only result in more drama
4) Etc. Etc. Etc.

Just one man's opinion....

Hmmmm, I have never seen a speed limit sign posted. How would one know that they existed? FWIW, if I had to ride my bike at 10 to 15 mph while going downhill, I might as well become a hiker. Do you realize how much skidding and erosion would happen due to braking if this were actually enforced?

All mutli-use trails have a 15 mph limit. I'm not policing anyone but there's a good reason why there's a speed limit on muti-use trails. I'm surprised you weren't aware of such facts.

Default Here we go with the "big bikes" again...

Okay, yeah, I'll pedal my 303 up the hill! What are the "right things", dude? Just what you value and think is legit? What do you have against big bikes and why do you think it's your forest? Your attitude is just as bad for the sport as the stupid people you don't trust.

First off I am still open to the idea but I have some concerns. The trails on Mt. Wilson are very special and are one of the reasons I have not moved on to Arizona yet. First off, I hope that you do not shuttle any minors up the mountain, parents have a nasty habit of blaming others when their kids do something stupid. I am mainly concerned that the shuttle will put too many people on the trails and especially on “big bikes”.

“Yes” it would be great and make life very easy. But the true is: unlike some downhills…a shuttle is not necessary to enjoy those trails. The beauty of Mt. Wilson is you don’t have to climb the singletrack to get up. The downhills are easily broke into sections. Start with Brown Mt. and come down El Prieto. When you become a stronger climber do Mt Lowe Fireroad to Sunset...next to Middle Merrill…then up to Upper Merrill, until you can climb to the top and come down any of the other trails that drop off the top.

I will concede that my concerns/fears are self-centered and self-serving. If I trusted all mountain bikers to do the right things I would be totally onboard and support your venture…but I don’t. I don’t want to rain on your parade but it this time I have a hard time supporting it.

That's because those people's nuts dropped when they reached puberty. Don't be a pu$$y.
