Buy the x-9! I can bring home a hanger straightner we have at the bike-shop at work..... I know roger has one, maybe Performance will do it since they f'd your wheel? You should always have a spare hanger anyhow..... I like SRAM chains...which model? Sounds like you /your bike caused the problem, not the chains fault??

    Thanks Scott

My friend knows a regional manager for a "Large Sports Retailer" that will give me a new X9 for $50. I don't know if the hanger is bent, I need to look at it more closely. I only had the chain about 2 months, not impressed with it. Open to any suggestions on something more durable. It was a sram chain...

    Thanks Scott,

As far as the chain goes, I inspected the chain, three links are twisted with a bad link on either side of the twisted links.

The rim is offset enough that the one side is hitting the v-brake pad with it fully opened, I cant move the v-brake over anyfurther. Im dropping the rim off after work, I am sure they will make it right (this is my first time dealing with performance...Roger would have gotten the work, but his shop was still closed when I passed by Sat. a little after 11:00am.

Thanks for the offer on the derailer, I don't know if sram shifters are compatible with shimano??? If they are, I have an extra shimano derailer in the garage.

The weekend just proved to me that I need to invest in some bike tools and stand, a good tech book, and some time on youtube! I always welcome the help, though, I think you are headed to work when I am on my way home!

Tuff day shuttling Pinos today too! LOL

Mike, I got some chain if you need some....maybe your chain is long enuff without the link? Go big front and big rear, see if its long enuff....carefully! Do you need a hanger or a rear der.? I mite have a der. .....shimano? You can re-dish the wheel, loosen the spokes on one side a quarter turn, tighten the opposite. You can make V-brakes open up more too...... just a thought!

Tough ride today from the P&R up Santa Clara Truck Trail starting around 10:15 this morning.... had a 21 year old and his 17 year old brother school me on the climb up... fuggen animals, they were, and they claimed they were out of shape and hadn't been riding in months. I suck, period, just have to accept I'm old and slow.

@1080 That might be. I do not know a lot about lacing rims. I don't run disc brakes on my hard tail (yet)... What seems odd is that the rim is true and straight, just offset slightly. Anyway, the rim did not have a rotor on it, so I guess maybe they assumed I ran discs since most newer bikes no longer have the caliper brakes...Thanks for the input!

ddmansprty... I wonder if they laced the hub wheel and they dished the lace job for something else like a disc brake, or ????
