I rode the La Tuna loop yesterday. Man, I'd forgotten how fun that place can be. I haven't really ridden over there in a long time because I have been more focused on the ANF trails, el prieto and the like. La Tuna is in really nice condition. That drop down the first section of single track into the canyon is awesome. The erosion rut down the middle wasn't nearly as bad as it usually is so you can carry tons more speed through that part by the first abandoned truck.
Also, at the top, someone has cut in a really nice short section of singletrack off to the right of the main drop, the swath that was cut by firemen as a firebreak a couple of years years ago. Nice little option for that trail, even though bombing down the fire cut is pretty fun too!So anyway, when you finally get down into the canyon, there is a large California Bay Laurel tree that has fallen across the trail. I am totally willing to hike up there and due some trail maintenance to remove the tree, but here is my question. I know that particular section of trail is maintained by a mtbike club (I can't remember right now which one it is), would they be offended if I go up and take out that tree? Is there some sort of guidelines for doing such work? I certainly don't want to step on anyones toes or to anger anyone by doing something that someone else might consider unnecessary. I remember a discussion a while ago on here talking about people doing things to trail in the name of maintaining them to make the easier. this is not really like that because you actually have to dismount and crawl under the tree as there is no other way around. I would love for the tree to be gone because getting off the bike and crawling really wrecks the flow of that part of the trail! Anyway, thoughts out there? ![]()

Well it's owned or under the jurisdiction of the Sant Monica Conservisory, but the guys from OTB and CORBA do a lot of trail maintenance up there. To take out something like that, I don't think anybody would mind, but I'm wondering how'd you go about it??? Another idea.... is there any way to incorporate it into the trail itself and still maintain the flow? Some of the best trail work I've ever seen done was by a lady named Mother Nature, this broad really knows her shiat.
