Unhappy Life without my Edge 305

I woke up this morning to a dead Garmin Edge. I tried a soft reset, hard reset, and nothing. It's dead.

So now I guess I have to pay the $99 flat fee to Garmin to get it fixed since it's way out of warranty. In any case, it'll probably be a week or two before I get it back.

I guess I will take this opportunity to get back into the "zen" of mountain biking, instead of pushing to get extra miles or elevation gain logged.

If only this happened two weeks ago, when we couldn't ride at all due to the fires and smoke . Oh well, at least this should fix the battery life issue I had before too.

Sorry to hear that... you need a back-up. I did this to my 305 at the San Juan SS sufferfest:

Luckily hubby had the same model. So, I took his

It's a great cyclocomputer. Heart rate monitor, GPS tracking (with use of a computer). No setup required like with a regular cyclocomputer.

Not the cheapest model, but I love mine.

Sometimes it is *really* nice to know about how close I am to the end of a ride

You need to learn to break things before the warranty runs out. I'm on my 4th 305 in less than a year. They usually get them back to you in about a week. If you whine, they will overnight it to you.

For those interested in the Edge, this site has the best deals on them I have seen.

The Edge is pretty damn cool thing. I owned one for a year and loved it. Its defintely gives you an incentive and motivation to ride further and longer.

Before you give up on the edge or send edge any moolah- try this....

The stupid thing resets itself if the battery runs all the way out. To reset it, you need to push the MODE and the RESET button and hold for 3 seconds. Then hit the power key. If this is the problem it should beep to life. There is more info on their web site if you aren't sure you are doign it right.

I dont' know why they haven't worked this bug out but this trick has saved me and my friends a few times.

Thanks Impy. I actually did try that too. That's the way you do soft and hard resets on the Edge.

It's worked for me in the past, but this time..it's really dead

The other reset is to hold the mode and reset down for 3 seconds and then try the power button.

Have you tried switching the charge source (i.e. have you always charged it off of the AC charger?). If so, try charging it from the USB port instead or vice versa. You might have a problem with the charge source and the battery is dead.

Give that a try.

Also, have you upgraded your unitware recently? Let us know.

Thanks.

Yeah, I tried switching to the AC charger instead of the PC, and the same results.

No firmware upgrades for a while - at least 3 months I believe.

It's been sent out to Garmin as of last week. Maybe if I'm lucky, they'll just send me a 705 instead

I can understand a little about how you feel. I wasn't able to find my GPS after I moved. I just found it this weekend. Four months without my GPS was a bummer. I just like knowing my miles and elevation. I hope they fix it for you fast.
