I bought these lights and love them. I put the 5w on the bar and 10w on the helmet. I want to buy another one so i can put duel 5w on the bars and 10w on the helmet.
http://www.sigmasport.com/us/produkt...punkt=features run time is about an hour to 1.5. But, if you the coin to spare, get HID lights.

Steer clear of LED lights, they are pretty much worthless. You can get by with the Halogen lights (I run 15 W each on headmount and barmount) unless you are riding some sketchy terrain. HID is the way to go. I've had guys ride past me with these lights and they blow mine away. Well worth the extra $$$.

I run the Lupine wilma 8 LED's, and from what I can tell it's wayyy brighter than my HID's(hope, topeak, nightrider). It only comes as a bar mount but it's been plenty for the rides I've been on. It is a tad expensive though. One charge and it's good for a week of night riding! 8-10 on high 1-2hrs per ride. Also one thing about the LED's that I really like in comparison to the HID is that it's instant on/off. Also has the flash mode to freak people out in front of you

What is the output in lumens of that? Not to judge a book by its cover, but I don't think that would cut it for fast riding.
The lights I got (but still haven't used) are 500 lumen (TriNewt) and 300 lumen (X2 Dual) total. I think some single HID lights are up to like 800 lumen, but I'm not sure. I'm itching to try my new lights out! Maybe I'll drive out tonight for a run around Fully? |

It's kinda lame that there aren't many options for lights in the affordable range.

I've got the Niterider Enduro Pro HID and I also have the MiNewt for my bars. I'd love to have it the other way around though. The Niterider HID is realitively cheap at 279 dollars through Jensons, but if you check around you can get it for a few bucks cheaper. Still the best deal going for HID.

1) LED's are most definitely the future of bike lighting. Huge improvements in light output 2007 vs. 2006, cost is the same/cheaper than many HID models, bulbs last forever, replacement bulbs are MUCH cheaper than HID's... etc. Where I do have an "issue" with LED's (and some HID's) is the "color temperature" of the bulbs themselves. While Halogens produce a golden color, the white colors produced by LED/HID can decrease vision in certain situations (ie. helmet mounted with dust in front of you). Bulb manufacturers have been working on this..... good news is months away!
2) Pugz- I will be bringing a MiNewt with me tomorrow. 3) The 1400 Lumen Lupine is beyond.... !!!! Pretty much a Police Helicopter Lamp mounted to one's handlebars! Pricey though!4) I forgot.... ![]()

I just got back from riding with my new Light & Motion arc HID and I'm very pleased. It's a vast improvement over the Niterider HID which was too blue and had a horrid beam pattern. Works well with the MiNewt on my helmet. Pay attention to beam patterns as well as lumens. After seeing what's new at Interbike I'm going to wait another year before considering an LED as my primary light

1400 lumens! That would pretty much make my wilma obsolete(well, may be not)! I can't imagine needing anymore light than what the wilma put's out, which is 830 lumens. I suppose that betty system would seem like the equivalent of bringing a set of the night lights from anaheim stadium with you, or ripping the light pod off my rally car(4, 35watt Hella HID's in a cluster)! But man the Lupine's are expensive! |

I rode last night with lights from Dinotte. I had bought the headlight (200 lumen) and tail-light (140 lumen) on sale for 100 bucks each. I put the headlight on my bars and tail-light up top. Red color was less than ideal for the helmet mounted, but it works. Two headlights would have been better, but I wanted a tail-light for road riding.
These LED lights work fine. You can ride at a moderate pace with them, and you can stretch out battery life by using the 3 different power settings. My favorite part about them is the clever mounting system. Completely tool-less, on and off in seconds. |

![]() I think the separation angle shouldn't be too far apart if it was 100' down the trail. If the lion was 10' away, then maybe not(but' you'd see the fur anyay) . I'm still riding with my tried and true marwi 12/5 halogen system and a homemade 10W helmet light. With the MR-11's the beam pattern is all in the bulb. Buy a $20 bulb from your favorite light manufacturer, a mr11 socket, and go fabricate. The alu housing just adds extra weight (until you hit something of course) My headlight only weighs 3 oz. Halogen still sucks batteries, but just run powersave mode in the climbs.

I rarely recommend Performance Bike for anything, but lights might be something to hit 'em up for. They usually have Niterider stuff ad considerable markdown, and if you work the timing of a sale w/ coupons, you can get a really nice set pretty cheap. I speak from experience on that
Being relatively new to night riding, I suggest that you get both handlebar and helmet if you can spring for it. The more light the better when you're starting out. Have fun. |
