Got the Whistler blues...
![]() |
Christmas came early...thanks to MW!
![]() ![]() My new Demo 7! After selling some parts, switching parts from my Intense 6.6, and buying a few new parts from The Path, it's done...almost! The shock is currently at Push for repair since it was leaking oil. I'm hoping it's maiden voyage will be Fontana in November! Maybe it'll even help me be FAST one day! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Someone else on here just recently picked up a Demo 8 (I'll let them share it themselves!) in small. I've got a Med and while I don't feel cramped, it definitely feels pretty small for a medium. The biggest thing about the Demo's is that the frames are fairly heavy. They are burly as hell (3 linkages! come'on!! No flex there, eh), though. Carla's bike is totally unstock ![]() From looking at it, they got a Ti spring for the DHX 4.0, different handlebar, switched out the brakes to XT, grips. Different bash guard/chain guide. Not sure if they changed out the rear derailleur and shifter, etc. Justin doesn't like the x9 on my bike. |

Congrats Carla! I bet you'll rock Fontana on it once you're all better. :-)
Specialized is really good about having models of stuff in stock nice and early - including small dh bikes! As for the frame ... I think it is 1.2 lbs heavier than a Sunday frame, but I'm not sure whether that's the US made Sunday frame or the overseas one. The overseas Sunday is a quarter lb heavier I think. This all just stuff I've heard from people, so I'm not certain. I could stand to be corrected. I don't think the Demo 7/8 (same frame) is exceptionally beefy as far as DH bikes go, and the good thing is that the stock Specialized DH bikes (the II series in particular) come with great parts, save for those Specialized hubs maybe. But almost all companies will skimp on the hubs. Custom wheel build baby!

Yeah, my wheels have been with us for a while! They've lasted through many trips to Big Bear, a race season at Fontana, and two trips to Whistler! Glad we were able to adapt them to the Demo. |

Does your Ti spring rub? If so, maybe you need a Super Duper Slop Reducer by Shitco!(pat. pend) Not available everywhere.

I may just try to replace my rear hub. Tani said it was pretty heavy. The Demo 7 I also has a heavier build than the Demo 8II (but is like $2k less also ). I'm not super worried about the weight, I guess... |

Eh.. we have other stuff we want to spend money on, so I guess saving money and keeping my Demo heavy isn't a horrible thing I just need to talk Justin into giving me his pimp 823/King hub wheel for the rear ![]() |

As it is.. the light spring I have in my Totem is still *slightly* too heavy for me at times. I've gone through the travel (in SB), but usually when riding I don't. |
