Exclamation Air Quality

I figured I'd start a special thread just for air quality feedback. It seems like it may be improving, but I'm not sure if that's true.

The EPA's website AIRNow still shows the air quality as UNHEALTHY:

http://www.airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.showlocal&CityID=129

There is some interesting info on this site. It talks about the particles in the air and why they're harmful, etc.

My eyes have been irritated for 2 days.. and I'm having nose issues. (No known allergies.)

Try to stay inside!! That's what I'm doing.

The Poomacha fire here is killing us also. Thick smoke layer all throughout town. Sky is nice yellow/brown

No worries here. I smoke so I am used to it. The bright side to all this is I haven't had to buy cigs all week. I just walk outside and get my fix.

Well I thought we weren't gonna get any smoke out here but now with no santa ana winds it is pushing all the Santiago smoke over here (91/15 fwy). The hills behind my house are getting dark and glowing orange.

Default Fire-area residents still waiting to inhale

Not what you want to hear, but important none-the-less. The damage you do might not be felt for several days afterward!!!
--------------------------------------------------
Taken from: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/orange/la-me-smoke25oct25,1,847562.story?coll=la-utilities-editions-orange
Even when the fires are extinguished and the Santa Ana winds that carried their smoke die down, the tiny particles suspended in the air could remain in hazardous concentrations "into next week," said Mary Nichols, chair of the California Air Resources Board.

"Our advice for everybody's health, even for people who are healthy, is they should be taking it easy and staying indoors," Nichols said. Pollution measurements throughout much of the Los Angeles Basin and San Diego County have peaked at levels up to 10 times higher than levels deemed safe by national health standards. Such extreme concentrations of particulates, even if they last a few hours or less, are considered hazardous, capable of causing immediate breathing problems even for healthy people.

In Escondido just after midnight Tuesday, fine particulates reached 325 micrograms per cubic meter of air, according to a California Air Resources Board website. The federal government's health standard for acceptable exposure over 24 hours is 35 micrograms per cubic meter of air. The state air board put mobile monitors in five fire areas in San Diego County shortly after the fires erupted this weekend to detect the highest concentrations

On Monday in Norco/Corona and Lake Elsinore, levels reached concentrations exceeding 200 micrograms per cubic meter, according to data from the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Particulates are microscopic pieces of soot, smoke, dust or other materials capable of lodging deep in lungs.

Because of strong Santa Ana winds moving toward the coast, some of the worst smoke is accumulating many miles from fires, including in Long Beach, Simi Valley and the Riverside area.

actually it feels much worse than that. like i smoked 20 joints. not that I'd know anything about that either. I like to take...

I've been all over LA, LBC, OC in the last few days... it's bad everywhere... I've had allergy like symptoms and a headache that finally went away today (i'm in chicago). The worst I saw was OC area on Monday.

I heard that today the LA basin looks worse than it has over the last couple days. The fire in Arrowhead is unloading straight into LA. I'm not risking exercising in this until the AQMD is nice and green, probably next week. Time to find a gym and trial membership

I'm either having trouble breathing inside currently, or all this talk about air pollution is making me anxious.
