It's the stuff you can't see that'll hurt you.

If you are going out this afternoon, I have to tell you that the air quality is poor to good depending on your health status. I haven't been riding for a week and a half so I had troubles breathing. I climbed Cholla and immediately turned and took the lower section for a little ride and went home. The trail conditions are great though...
On separate note, there is a Demo day out there right now @MILF park... Last edited by genusmtbkr5; 10-28-2007 at 12:34 PM. Reason: merged with existing thread |

poked my head out the backyard this morning and definitely smelled more smoke today than i did yesterday. I'm getting over a cold so not sure if the coughing is related to it or the fact that i rode yesterday.

went up to top of the world to ride over to the demo,(sunday morning) but the view from the top showed a little more smoke and worse air quality than yesterday in all directions.
It was a tough decision, but I decided not to ride and went home. An hour later, I went outside and it looked better- but i think the gf and i might go to an afternoon movie (indoors, AC, etc.) instead. She has more sensitive nose and throat than I do, so I use her as an air quality barometer-if her lungs hurt, the air's too dirty to go ride. I want my lungs in good working order when I can ride in clean air! This is driving me nuts. |

I have asthma and was out riding road on friday for about an hour and did a 10k run saturday morning. Only had to use the inhaler once after the ride on friday. Wasn't bothered on saturday. I seem to be doing fine. Lungs are regenerative as long as they aren't too damaged from years of smoking right? I felt fine so I will be out riding again later today.

I went out this morning to Sycamore (Pt. Mugu) starting from the Newbury Park entrance I detected a slight smell of smoke in the air but kept on riding. 3 miles into the ride a seat rail broke. I kept on riding. Halfway up the backbone climb I started to taste the smoke. I figured that the Catalina eddy was pushing in smoky air from the beach side. That was enough!

yeah....what a turnaround from the aq yesterday. we had to cut the ride short at aliso. the air was ok down low, but as soon as you started up the climbs you could smell it and feel it.
demo was cool...just looked, i was done w/ climbing by that point.

I did a ride from my house up to Carmel Mt. Preserve, down into LPQ, up cobbles, through a bit of DMM, and back through CMP.
To start, I could tell the air wasn't great, but it wasn't too bad. When I got to the canyon though, it was very bad. From one side to the other was smoky. My lungs were hurting (more than usual) up cobbles. I couldn't do much of DMM (little bean? or is it intestines?). My lungs gave out and I started to feel sick. Bottom line: it isn't worth it. ![]()

Rode Palm Desert yesterday and felt like crap--by the end of the ride (which was cut short), I felt like I had a lead weight on my sternum, a punch in the face (sinuses) and a knot in my back. Aliso was much better in the afternoon.
Today, rode from HB to Seal Beach and it was great! Blue skies, breathing great, my sinus pressure is even a tad bit better. Don't you DARE wish for the wind to shift here, just come out and ride it!! ![]()
