I rode the road today. 35 with small hills and really felt it on the hills. Out of breath very quickly. Better to stay flat if youre gonna ride. **wheeeezee**

If you're living in those areas, pick up those cheap paper masks that surgeons and dentists wear. It DOES help... a lot.
In addition, breath through your nose. There are a lot of natural filters built into your nose that you bypass when you breath through your mouth (yes this pretty much precludes doing any heavy physical activity). Unless you want to be on an iron lung in a couple of years, do NOT go biking in this crap. By biking now you are pretty much ensuring that you may never be able to go biking again. |

Our air has gotten progressively worse here in Temecula today. It is by far the worst it has been all week.
It's even starting to smell like smoke inside at work here. I thought it was just me, but others have mentioned it ![]() it's BAAAD out there. If there is no change tomorrow I'm thinking about calling in sick with respitatory issues since they obviously can't keep the air clean inside for us. ![]() |

I'm going to try and remember to "borrow" a few masks from work (recommended by one of the anesthesiologists)...maybe we should all dress as surgeons for the Halloween ride

Kevin, I don't think anything will be open. Most of the Spring Challenge course I BELIEVE is on national forest land, and Thomas Mountain / Ramona Trail definitely is.
If they decide to open parts back up this weekend I'm there, but I don't think that'll happen, unfortunately. Will definitely keep you posted if I hear anything different, though! |

I did a 25 mile road ride, with moderate/gentle climbing up Mandeville Cyn road (West side LA) on Tuesday and I felt like crap. As I climbed, my throat felt progressively worse to the point it was hard to swallow it was so dry, swollen and irritated.
I'm nowhere near the fires but I've been waking up feeling like I have a sore throat and feeling chest/lung congested. I did a run today, and it wasn't as bad, but still more of the same. I'd say if you can avoid riding for now, avoid it. It's a good excuse to hang out inside with AC. |

This is killing me. I called a hotel in Palm Springs and they said the smoke is starting to come over the mountains but is not bad. I want to get in my October century for the Century A Month challenge and I'm being thwarted everywhere I turn. Things are starting to look bad here in Pasadena, where they have been relatively clear all week.
I thought about driving to Joshua Tree but there is no water out there. I need to figure out something quick as I plan to ride tomorrow.

I finally had a chance to watch the news last night and see the devastating effects of the fires. It is far worst than I had imagined as I spent the weekend and early part of the week promoting in Arizona. As I drove west on HWY 40, I could see the smoke rising over the mountains and was quite surprised by the amount that could be seen from so far away.
We, at Bionicon, want to send our best wishes to all the SoCal riders, families, and friends who are either dealing with the fires directly, or who have to deal with the current air quality. Please take care of yourselves and protect the trails that remain from any harm in the future. We look forward to our next trip down to ride with you. Sincerely, Mic |
