my wife hates riding on dirt. She has just started to play golf with a big crew of girls. She seems to like golf. I would rather eat nails then play golf so it works out.
BTW, when I did get her out there she was goofing off and ate shit. Yup, broke her arm out in Chino Hills. That was a long walk out. |

Try riding at JPL (pasadena)..the arroyyo seco trail..
not a very difficult uphill..... very gradual...highly covered in trees (doesn't get very hot)....rides along a nice little stream.... You can bring a picnic lunch for both of you and eat at the camp site 1 mile in... if your girlfriend/wife gets to tired then just walk the bikes...theirs lots of nature and wooded areas to see..... ....see lots of fathers who bring their small kids to practice biking up there......also older couples walking/hiking that trail... ....trail goes about 4 miles in...but theirs many stops and sitting benches along the way...if it gets to extreme or tiring..you can always head back... |

![]() Justin is good. I tried to convince Linda that I suck at housework too, but she has been making me practice instead of letting me off to go riding. Well done Justin, well done. ![]()

i think my wife is just as ocd, but she is convinced she is going to teach me to clean the house like her. i'm not sure who is crazier, her for thinking she'll train me, or me for thinking i will somehow get off the hook...

I may be old, but I'm fat

Some 20 years ago when my wife and I first got together, I screwed up a load of laundry and washed and dried her good wool suit. (Ooooops) Was just trying to help out!
Since then, have not had to do a lick of laundry. Burned the water when making some boiled eggs, so haven't had to cook since then either. Mixed two cleaners when cleaning the bathroom and almost killed us all, including the cats, from the poisonous fumes. So... no more housework for me! ![]() Dropped a tree on the house with the chain saw after a bad storm. No yard work! ![]() She still "let's" me ride my bike though!! All kidding aside: 1) Ask yourself if YOU want her to start riding. 2) If yes, ask her if SHE would like to start riding. 3) If yes, pick a short easy ride. You can always ride it twice if she is having a good time. Go with just the two of you. One, so she doesn't feel intimidated by others watching. And two, so no one else will hear her chew yer a$$ when she falls and takes it out on you. ![]() ![]() 4) Maybe even go hike it first so she can see that she won't be in over her head. And to share what you know already about the trail. 5) Stop often and see how she's doing. She might not tell you if you don't ask. I didn't have that problem with my wife but as always, your mileage may vary!6) Have fun. It's why most of us ride anyway. I can tell you from first-hand experience that taking vacations to exotic mountain bike locales is easier when your spouse rides too. It's up to you two if it is more fun...

well it looks like she is willing to give it another go. And I didn't twist her arm either. She has been talking about doing the loop for a few days now. Then she's having a bad day at work today and I get this e mail. Well this is the good part anyway. lol I guess one can only be pushed so far and I am there. I snapped. I would like to ride the loop on Sunday if we have time. At least attempt it. I think it will be good for me to let off steam. I will pretend these assholes here are the dirt and roll right over them! So there you have it, we'll be rolling the loop on Sunday for sure. I was going to let her ride my Tracer but from reading the above maybe she should be on the Bullit. ![]() |

Sneaks over trails
|
Hi All,
![]() I guess this is a little over due, but you know how it goes with life, in a blink of an eye time has flown by. Well I just wanted to introduce myself and say HI My name is Michelle, I am Mazda-Monkey’s wife and I am new to the MTBing world. My very first ride was in November 2007, on the Diva Demo Day for Rock and Road bike shop. It was an all girl ride and I rode a Specialized Saphire Expert. It was a sweet ride. Everyone from R&R was awesome and very supportive. I was the last one on that ride but Tracy did not let me feel left out. The supportive nature of people who MTB is what got me hooked. I told my husband that I loved riding and the next thing I know Mazda-Monkey built me (for X-Mas) the sweetest orange/black Santa Cruz Juliana with great XC components. The bike only weighs approx. 26lbs. (I am so spoiled! but don't tell anyone. It will ruin his reputation.) Second he has been wonderfully patient with me and my slowness. After having not been on a bike in 15 years, my stamina is not what it used to be. Now we are going out on Family rides to build up that stamina and have a great time doing it. (No more MTB widowhood for me. Well at least not in the afternoons, he still goes out early in the mornings to do his intense/crazy rides like San Juan.) On our family rides, my husband rides his old bike and pulls my son on one of those Tag-a-long bikes, (he has even pulled our son up Cholla ) and he still kicks my butt. We have gone riding at Aliso (love that Coyote trail! ), to Cooks corner and back from the 5 freeway and Alicia and we did one group ride with the Trail Angels. The Trail Angels ride was great except I felt bad about being the very last one again . Thanks to Anna and Single Track Angel for sticking with me and all of their encouragement I did finish the ride. I don’t think the trails we did were Newbie trails. It was nice meeting some of the STR peeps at that ride.I love this site and hope to get my skills/stamina up soon so that I can join more group rides. I just love how everyone is so encouraging and supportive no matter what level you’re at. And one last thing that I need to mention is that I am a Porter/Stout girl, so one of those group rides will have to include an after ride Lunch with a tall one. I will also be posting this intro attached to the thread of "How to get your wife/GF to MTB" so that others can see that sometimes it does work out and that there are success stories of getting your loved ones to ride with you. I also want to thank all who gave my husband such great advice for introducing the crazy life of MTBing to me. I am loving every second it.I saved the best for last I want to thank my husband for everything. ![]() I just realized this post sounds like I am accepting an award at the academy awards but without the writers' guild's help. I guess I just appreciate this new road that my life has taken and want to publicly acknowledge it. Thanks, WeaselGirl |
