Thumbs up Pics From Santiago Canyon Rd.

I got an e-mail this morning from OC Fire Authority that Santiago Canyon Rd. was open, so Jake and I took a ride out there this afternoon to check it out.

This is the back side of Whiting from the road.

Christy's memorial was untouched! It was burned all the way around it.

This is the fire road exit from Whiting, just a few yards from the memorial.

And this is just a look at the canyon as we headed back to Tustin.

It was amazing what burned and what didn't.
From the road it looked like Blackstar canyon wasn't touched at all. Then farther up the road, both sides of the road were burned.
Cook's Corner was also untouched.
You could tell that the firefighters had really worked their tails off to save what they could!
Silverado is ONLY open to fire personel and Modjeska canyons, as well as Live Oak Rd. were both open to residents only. They were checking ID's.
I received an e-mail last night from Bob L. and he's doing fine, and I talked to Karl this afternoon and he's doing OK too.

There's gonna be a lot of work ahead of us with helping our canyon friend's getting their lives back together, and also getting our trails back into form.
Remember, you don't have to be a member of any clubs to just go out and do your part. We ALL love these trails, and we should ALL feel the need to go out and do our part.

Here's to more "happy trails" in our future!

Bump for the nighttime readers, cause I just logged on to post the same 2 pieces of news about the open road and Christy's memorial. Driving home in the twilight, there was just enough light left to see how charred everything was. It gave me chills, and then hearing my wife say that the memorial was intact gave me those chills all over again.

Thanks Maxwell, and nice to finally meet you at the demo on Sunday. Maybe next time I'll do a better job of keeping up!

Exclamation I Got A Message

Bob L. say's that Silverado Canyon is only open to fire personel. Modjeska and Live Oak are open to the residents.

Sorry for any confusion.

Default OCFA Says:

CONTAINMENT: 90% at the time of this report. Full containment is expected 11/4/07.

Almost there. =)

Thanks to the light rains recently, the air seems to be much much cleaner now. Too bad I can't wash that damn smoke smell out of my sheets. =P

Found this on PinkBike (hey, it's slow at work today):

Quote:
I was riding this evening and ran into the Park Rangers over at Whiting Ranch and they say there are still some active fires within the park and if all goes well the park will be back open in around 3 weeks.

I came accross this recently. It's of the firefighters that got trapped by the fire and had to use their emergency shelters (they all survived). It's a series of actual photos and fire department radio calls.
