The TV news just said that it is 5-10 miles from San Clemente proper.
They showed a shot of a raging fire on the hills south of the Nuke plant.
Very close to the 5, it may get shut down.

Edit-6:30 am - FWY is shut down at the plant.

Default Pendleton Fire

I just heard that the freeway is closed from Christianitos (last south bound off ramp in San Clemente) to Oceanside. I guess the fire has jumped the freeway. So if your driving that direction you may need to make alternate plans.

The fire moved away from San Clemente and is primarily on the base.

The smoke is freaking thick. You can look directly at the Sun. It is an Orange color

the news incorrectly reported that 5 south was reopened. as of last hour, it was 5 NORTH that was open again. may have changed by now, though.

The CHP reports that all I-5 southbound lanes remain open but say that northbound I-5 is now estimated to stay closed anywhere from one to four hours. "It depends on what the fire does" said officer Alicia Contreras at the CHP's border communication center. - 9 a.m.

Only a rumor at this point, Foo. I'm in San Clemente today and no unusual traffic coming out of Talega at the moment.
