There are so many threads on the various fires.. can we please get a central head count on who in SoCal has been evaculated, who has lost a home & what your status is. Does anyone need help, place to stay... anything??? Please post that here here and we'll see if we can help each other out.

Good idea.
I hope I'm not derailling this thread - Originally I was thinking of starting a reward fund for the arrest and conviction of the tool that started the OC fire but I think our pooled resources would be better served helping our community. For those displaced or in need, I'm sure many here would gladly chip in. I know I'm happy to help out. As mentioned by OMR - Let's get a head count and your needs. We can work out the logistics. C

I really hate to shed reality on this thread, and I think Gregg is doing an excellent thing by asking,
but if someone was evacuated because of fire, or even worse if they have lost a house, I doubt checking their favorite mountain biking website would be high on their list of priorities. Just sayin |

Only speaking for myself, I feel really angry at the loss of riding areas and I'm trying to temper that with the reality that there are those with much bigger problems than not being able to ride where they want. There's a satisfaction in helping out that goes beyond my own immediate desires. C

My family and I have been evacuated from Running Springs. So far, we haven't heard on the fate of our home, but like a lot of folks, we got all the important stuff out. Luckily, we just completed a round of brush and tree clearance around the house two weeks ago following the Butler Peak Fire.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the folks that have already lost their homes.

I know this won't lessen your anger, but the fires really are a natural occurnce that probably would of burned this area many times if not for mans interferance. I'm to angry and sad at the loss of these beautiful areas to the fires, but I do know they'll be back fairly soon. I watched a couple years back as all my local riding spots went up in flames. Now you can hardly tell there was much of a fire anyways.
Probably doesn't help much, but if you keep it in mind that'll it'll be back somewhat after the winter, it might help.

Maybe STR would be a low priority for some of those evacuated, but for me this has been a great source of up-to-the-minute info. We left Portola Hills last night around 10:00, but are back tonight and things are OK here.
Sladnas, if you need a bike to get you by for a while, I have a Trek hardtail and a helmet that you're welcome to borrow indefinitely.

Displaced from Fallbrook--San Diego county.
My family and I split time between my parents house in Fallbrook and our own house in San Jacinto for commuting reasons. I consider Fallbrook home just as much as San Jacinto. I used to have a place there. My kids go to school there and we go to church there. My parents have a huge house and my kids have their own rooms there, as do my wife and I. We have a lot of personal possessions there and like I have said, I consider it home too. So...we evacuated Monday morning around 11:30 along with my parents and some family friends to our home in San Jacinto. It has been really nice having it to go to. The skies are clear and you wouldn't know that 50-60 miles South, West and North of here all hell is breaking loose. It's a little hectic with 13 people in a 1,600 square foot house, but we aren't complaining. I have to go back to work tomorrow in Vista and we're hoping we can all get back into Fallbrook by Thursday. ------------------------- I know Mark/Sladnas lost everything and he has dibs on my totally pimped out Trek 4500 HT (no joke, the components spec is ridiculous considering the frame it sits on).

That would be awesome. I don't want to speak for him, but he mentioned they have renter's insurance, but he knows they are very under insured.
Replacing his bike with something comparable may be a low priority for him. If I hadn't sold my Reign, I would seriously give it to him. He's a great guy and a good friend.

i am totally down to contribute in some way. Cash money works well enough for those in need but I believe a no-brainer could be at least a loaner "program". I expect there are quite a few of us that have a few bikes that we could easliy loan out if needed while those impacted get back on their feet and insurance money (hopefully) comes through.
In any regard, maybe a thread started with bikes that are available for loan??? I can certainly put at least one of mine up for loan. Also if anyone impacted needs anything else to get thorough next few weeks hit me up and i'll see what I can grab around house to help out

It would be nice to know if there are any STR families with kids that have been effected by the fire. I'm sure those of us with kids have plenty of nice toys we would give.
