Default High winds today hurricane force winds

From todays OC Register.

By GARY ROBBINS
The Orange County Register

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for all of Orange County in advance of Santa Ana winds that are expected to gust up to 85 mph Sunday in Fremont Canyon above the Anaheim Hills.
"We're talking about hurricane force winds in Fremont," says weather service forecaster Phil Gonsalves, referring to the fact that a Category 1 hurricane has speeds ranging between 74-95 mph.
"The wind will be blowing through pretty much every (inland) canyon, but Fremont will see some of the highest winds."
Those winds, combined with relative humidity that's expected to drop below 15 percent, led to the red flag warning, which will be in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday through 3 p.m. Tuesday. The warning means that weather conditions are highly conducive for the spread of wildfires.
Forecasters say the wind will blow from 20 mph to 40 mph in Orange County's northeastern canyons, with much higher gusts, starting Sunday afternoon. The winds will last well into Monday. But the humidity will remain until at least Tuesday, keeping the danger of wildfires high.

The wind is blowing like crazy here in Chino Hills. It's moving our patio furniture around the yard, and it's all metal, not the plastic stuff.

I thought about riding STT to Luge, maybe Old Camp, this morning, but I'd rather not get blown off a cliff! It is HOWLING around here.

I was coming home from the desert near Baker yesterday afternoon. The CHP were running blocks on the freeway to slow traffic. They didn't want to repeat the incident on the 14 the other day. And I can now see how it happened. There were many times where we could not see because of the sand and dust blowing across the freeway. Visibility often was less than a 50-80 yards for 10-20 seconds at a time. It was scary. I actually left the desert, because riding moto was just too darn scary in those conditions.

After the CHP turned off. I was thinking it wasn't so bad (which is why he pulled off). At least I had almost a mile of visibility most of the time with occasional gusts of dust and sand blowing across. Right after thinking about that, I came across an accident on the other side of the freeway. I don't know what happened, but I could see the first of the cars was a Ford F250/350 turned a compact car into a sub compact. It was ugly. And of course, many cars stacked up after that. Later, I saw many ambulances heading that way.

I got home and inpsected my truck, and the front end is badly sandblasted. Damn!

Brush fire in Malibu already with several key structures lost including a church and the historical Malibu castle !! 500 acres at the moment and very windy. No winds over here yet?
Castaic also burning.

Makes me really glad I headed for home yesterday instead of today. The wind started picking up pretty bad in Ventura/ Santa Barbara. In some sections it was so bad some cars were getting blown into other lanes on the fwy.

It was windy this morning. So-so right now. However directly north of us there is a fire burning pretty good. Our air is still OK, but not great... It's warm out, though.

I'm at work right now in long beach and although not Hurricane winds- its pretty bad. My work office (trailer thing) has a steel canopy welded and bolted to the front of it, and the wind is strong enough that its starting to crack the wood its bolted to. hope my office is still here tomorrow...

Certain areas of the OC have strong winds like Black Star and up at the "Pain Divide" while other areas are calm like at my house in Mission Viejo, not even a breeze...,

Last night about 2 am (coming home from Dk's) on the 91 East just past the golf course there was a police car on the side with his hazards on, as I got closer to him I figured out why, the wind was blowing us all over the freeway. Literally around the corner and a 25 mile an hr difference.

Still blowing pretty bad out here, looking on the bright side - I don't need to pay the gardener to trim the palm trees Mr. Wind helped me out

It's very windy in Carmel Valley. The sky is overcast from brush fire smoke and a bit of ash is raining down:

In case you don't know, Santa Ysabel is really close to Julian which is very close to the Laguna Mt. area.

The way things are looking right now is very reminiscent of the Cedar fire of 2003.
