Don't touch me!

I just picked-up a pair of Nevagal 2.35 stick-e's from Performance for $39.95 each yesterday (25% off sale). I wanted their new SWS (side wall shield) tires but Performance had never heard of them nor had them. What a shocker!
I replaced my recently unfaithful Trailbear up front and noticed a big difference from the get go. First, a lot more volume on dirt (2.35 vs. 2.25). Second, it tracked really well and never skipped a line. In fairness, the dirt was very tacky from recent rains so the true test in the San Gabes is yet to come. In addition, from falling 3 times in one week, I didn't exactly push the envelop, if you know what I mean. So far so good though. More to com. I like how the packaging states the weight at 760g, + or - 40 grams. WTF?

Hi all-- seeking recommendations on a new set of tires for SoCal terrain. I'm running tubeless Panaracer Fire XC 2.1s on Mavic CrossMax SLs on a Giant Trance. The Panaracers have been great tires, but I'm looking for something a little faster rolling and is still a good all terrain tire that hooks up well in all conditions.

I'm running the same, Fire XC UST both front and back, on Crossmax STs. The front just feels a bit narrow and unstable, while the rolling resistance is less than desired. What do you expect for $49 for both at Jenson last year?!
Thinking of getting Maxxis Ignitors UST 2.35 in front and 2.1 in back when these wear out. Cheapest I found so far is Speedgoat for $39 each, no shipping (over $100) or tax. |

I've ridden on Panaracer Fire XC Pros and Kenda Nevegals on SoCal hardpack for a while and they both perform about the same imho. Most people really like Maxxis Crossmarks and Continental Explorer Pros for all around tires too. The Contis are expensive though $51 each.

I've never run wider than a 2.1 as I'm an XC guy, but I am very happy with my IRC Mythos XC tires. I had Panaracer Fire XC Pro's previously and I am more confident with the IRC.

Hey Trance, just realized that you are running SLs. They're supposed to take up to 2.1 tires only, since it has a 17mm internal width. Not sure if all the suggestions listed would fit this UST rim. My STs take up to 2.3 tires, with a 19mm internal width. Of course, that's manufacturer's recommendation. Don't want you to blow your tire off during installation and get Stan's all over the place. Been there.

I run 2.3 Specialized 2Bliss Eskar's on my CrossMax SL's (also on a Trance). Haven't had any problems that I would attribute to the size of the tires. There's a little more info in the Tire Review Thread .

I was running the same Fire XC Pro 2.1 setup and couldn't hold the line very well at tight single tracks.
Now running Conti Mountain King 2.4/2.2 Supersonic combo and it transformed the bike. As long as it is rolling on dirt, the rolling resistance is good.

Minion in the front and Highroller in the rear. HOWEVER the Highrollers wear very fast. But it's by far the best setup I've ran. After 5 different tires I have decided on my current setup for DH maybe even AM.
My list of tires include Kenda Blue Grooves, Kinetics, Small Block 8's, Nevegals, Specialized Chunders, Maxxis Ignitors, and now the Minions and highrollers.
