Default New Avid Codes! Best way to

Hey guys, looking for some advice. I've never had new brakes. I got these for a great price so I HAD to pull the trigger on 'em. Now that they are on, what is the best way to break them in? I've had the same Hayes HFX-9's since I bought my Iron Horse SGS in '04. So this is all new to me.

I would go ride the Loop 4 timez, then they should be good to go. Afterwards clean the rotorz with some hotwing sauce.

You want to do a series of stops, building your speed with each one.
Allow the rotors to cool between stops!!
Depending on the pad compound you may want to pull the pads out when you are done and "deglaze" them by placing a piece of emery cloth on a flat surface and rubbing the pads on the cloth using a figure 8 pattern. Put them back in and you are good to go.

I have them and they're great. The only neg. is your other bikes brakes will feel like @#$% in comparison.

I'm sure the break in is similar to car brakes siince it's probably the same type of compound.
Heat up the pads gradually(ride the brakes), then do a series(3) of hard stops, but don't come to a complete stop. Then cruise around until the pads cool off (unneccessary if the pads don't contact the rotor.) Doing hard stops with the pads still cold is what will glaze them.

Those are some beefy looking brakes.

The best way to break in new brakes is to climb a lot of hills.

You probably think I'm nuts, right?
Do you remember what happens after you climb hills?

Now you got it...go climb some hills.

I broke in my Juicy 7s on practice and race day at Fontana. Really, just ride the bike, and the brakes will break in on their own.

Well, I got to really put them to the test today in San Diego... GREAT brakes. I am very stoked I got them. It's a good thing I got such a bro deal on 'em or I wouldn't have been able to buy 'em.

Very strong brakes and well worth it. Those Hope brakes look cool too.... right now I am very pleased.

I just got some '08 Code 5's and after cutting the hoses to length I have to bleed them. There isnt any info in the manuals and SRAM's site isn't giving up any info so my question is...
On the calipers there are two bleed screws so I have to bleed both sides, right?

no. you can actually bleed from either, but I would suggest bleeding from the one on the left (outside one).

Here is the manual you need

cheers!

Avid bleed kits have instuctions in them. If you only cut the lines you should not have to bleed both sides.

I had the bleed kit intructions but it only covered the Juicy's. I couldn't get any info from the SRAM site so I got it here. The set up is complete and I'm ready to ride.
