Default Oakley Radar glasses

I rarely wear glasses while riding because I sweat a lot and the sweat ALWAYS drips onto the lens, leaving a salty streak on it in the process.

I just read about the Oakley Radar glasses in the latest issue of Mountain Bike. The Radar has a "HydroPro" coating on it that is supposed to bead and sheet all liquids including sweat. According to the write-up, the HydroPro coating works.

I just ordered a pair on Oakley's website. You can custom build them, so I got a vented lens. The lenses are interchangeable, so I got a clear lens as well. I'm curious to see if it works for myself. If anyone else has this same problem, these glasses could be the answer!!

I'll post a review after I get them and wear them for awhile. Here's a pic of the pair I built/ordered.

awsome, I will be getting the same next month. except in Red just to be a little extreme. The fit on them is like a glove as I have (currently) 3 pairs of Oakleys- but have owned over 20 pairs and swear by them. So I know youll love them. The problem is with vented lenses, dust will be a problem depending on weather. Oh and the Unobtanium is amazing under sweat- I have a pair of Juliets and when I sweat theyre like peanut putter.

Those look to be the Chrome frames- Ive seen them in person and they are very shiny.

What about a headband or skullcap? Keeps most of the sweat out of my eyes.

As an FYI to any Oakley lovers out there: The Oakley HQ (adjacent to Whiting) has a showroom where you can try or buy any of their products. They have the current models of pretty much everything they make, and they offer more of their glasses with prescription lenses than most eye docs I've found can do. They can even put Rx inserts into some of the wildly curvy wraparound lenses that the docs, Lenscrafters, etc will tell you can't be bought in prescription form.

Didn't mean this to be a plug - I don't own any Oakley products - just a public service announcement.

If Doug is anything like me, it doesn't matter. I sweat just getting my bike off the roof.

I ride with a HALO headband and it helps a lot, I couldn't imagine riding without it. But I still get sweat dripping on my glasses on just about any ride over 45-60 minutes.

One thing I heard about these Radars is that the hydrophobic coating is only on the outside of the lenses..and not on the inside?

I was thinking about giving their Hydrophobic Treatment Kit a try and see if that helps at all.

I have the custom Radars with the vented lenses and the coating works great. I had a big blob of sweat on the lenses and it ran right off no trace on the lenses. Nice fit too.

I guess I'm the only one who has had bad luck with Oaks. I'm thinking my sweat must be toxic or something, because they are continually flaking on the outside frames, lens will not come clear, and the rubber on the sides deteriorated. I bought another brand to see how they'd work and my sweat doesn't "eat" them up.And I'm not buying the cheap ones either.

that's probably the salt in your sweat. just like the gunk that lines up your helmet straps and camelbak shoulder straps. one word...crusty!

I wear the Flak Jackets with the same hydrophobic stuff. They seemed to work great at first...I guess you probably have to keep applying the stuff. Now, sweat will build up a little but that is not the issue usually. It is the fog that builds up on the sweat that impairs vision. With the vents in those Radars you might have enough airflow to keep them from fogging up.

Regardless of all of that, these lenses are better then all of the sunglasses I have ever owned.

I wear an older style of Oakleys, about a year old, and am amazed by their sweat resistance.

Obviously, when there is a huge river of sweat running down the lens, there is distortion. But a shake of the head will make it go away for the most part and you can see again. When it evaporates, you can see just fine.

Contrast that with the Maui Jim's that I wear around town. MJ's are awesome, but sweat on the lenses will dramatically impair your vision.

Another bit of gear to help out is my Pearl Izumi microfiber headband. It's super thin and eliminates about 95% of the problem in the first place.

I have the Radars and like them. I sweat a lot and although you will get spots on the lenses they are smaller because of the hydrophobic coating (it is on both sides). They do seem to wipe clean a little easier too.

I paid 300 bucks for my Maui Jims 7 years ago and they are still the best glasses I've ever worn. Can't use this particular model for riding though.

Pretty sweet dude...can't wait to try them on once you get them

Sunglasses are almost a "must" for outdoor activity. UV protection is a golden ticket for good vision when you're an old fart. Polarization lets you see your friend at the bottom of the lake when he falls off the log bridge.

You know I've always wondered about that. None of the local shops have any "asian fit" ones- I wonder what the difference is?

Arai helmets (motorcycle) have country specific helmet geometries for their products. Supposedly this is for an absolute best fit.
