Default Stolen Bike

Hey my friend in LA posted a bulletin on Myspace about his bike getting stolen. I know some of you guys out there have helped people out on craigslist before, which is awesome. If you notice anything please send me a PM so I can forward it to him. Here is his message and thanks for looking...

Hi, Some f*** stole my bike tonight and since I spent a year working on it and riding on it every chance I got, I am not comfortable with giving up finding it. So if anyone has spare time please do me a favor and search craigslist in la (socal) for a Black ‘97 Gary Fisher, Rock Shox, Black XT Rims, Shimano XTR Crank, Shimano Deore Derailer, 21 Speed Mountain Bike (3 chainrings on crank, 7rings on the cassette), 18 inch frame. The bike has brand new 26 x 1.25" tires (they are thin like a road bike for commuting). If they are stupid they will be asking for as low as $100, if they are greedy look for a grand. I will obviously be doing this neurotically, but the more eyes the better. Kindly send me the link so I can show up to their house and disable them as cheapily and unfairly as they f***ed me. This bike was extremely important to me, this has NOTHING to do with $$$ - I would rather have my truck stolen any day.

I hate thieves, I've had 2 bikes stolen from me. I think the thumbs of those people need to be removed. They'll think twice trying to grab on to something else to steal. Good Luck

It sounds like your bud has an emotional attachment (can understand) to this bike and it sucks it was ripped off.

But I have to say there is know way this bike is worth a grand or even $500. Not trying to dis the bike but just trying to point out that I doubt it was ripped off to sell for a profit.

Good luck and I hope he finds it
ps. If he wants it back he should post a ad around town for a reward of $200 $300 or whatever for the return of the bike. No questions asked........just a thought

I would notify all the LBS's around the areas of LA and OC and let them know as well.

Tell him to go look at the local pawnshops in the area that deal in bikes. I was amazed at a few of these places. One place had an almost new Stumpjumper going for 100 bucks. It turned out to be stolen and the owner did get it back, but there was some higher end stuff there with low prices. Police said they couldn't do anything about it, unless they had serial numbers or someone had etched DL# on it.
