Default Yelled at for paying to park - Aliso

So for the 3rd time this year, I was basically called an idiot for using the pay lot at Aliso.

I went for a ride yesterday and as always, parked in the lot. A hiker came by and said "ya know, it's free to park on the street". I said yeah, I don't mind paying, but thanks.

Well, long story short, he couldn't understand why someone would pay when they don't have to. My basic response was that I don't mind paying the 3 bucks, it isn't going to send me to the poor house and most importantly, I believe in supporting the trails I get to enjoy. My wording was a bit more colorful though...

I don't get it. I know it can be a pain to make sure you have the singles to pay the machine and yes, your car does get dusty, but to criticize a stranger for doing to the right thing??? I don't go criticize the people that park on the street.

I bought a parking pass so I wouldn't have to worry about having the money and since it works at most of the parks I use on a regular basis, it was a no brainer.

Some people...

I usually use the lot and pay. It is safer than parking on the street.

With my schedule I do not have as much time to give back "in labor" to support the trails. So I do not mind purchasing a pass to park at San Juan etc.. and pay a few bucks at Aliso.

However $10 at El Morro is a rape job!

Actually that parking lot is considered part of the State Beach Parking Lots. All the State Beach Parking Lots are $10. They aren't taking advantage of the Newport Beach/Laguna Beach money at hand, just staying consistant with all the state beach parking lots.
Now why is it considered a beach parking lot????? I have no idea! Other than the maintenance crew and the lifeguard headquarters are both there.

aliso is county park. That permit (CNF) covers state parks.

Jeff the adventure pass only covers the CNF. I have a seperate pass for the City of San Clemente and now need to purchase one for the state parks

I haven't heard that the county permit covers the state parks. Did I miss something?

The county park permit is $55 per year. It allows you to park at county parks, like Aliso, Whiting, Peters, Santiago Oaks, Irvine and others.

sorry for the confusin i was stating that aliso is a county park so the CNF permit will not work for a county owned park.

I like to ride the 8 miles to Aliso, saving the $3 bucks in parking and the $3 in gas.

Aren't I special.

The county park permit is $55 per year. It allows you to park at county parks, like Aliso, Whiting, Peters, Santiago Oaks, Irvine and others.
It also cover O'Neill. If you choose to pay $80 for the year, it includes the beaches and harbors like Dana Point and Salt Creek. $40 mid year(July). That pass is calendar only, so you need to buy it in Jan. The State pass for EL Moro and State beaches like San Onofre cost $120.00 a year. The adventure pass(Maple Springs, San Juan) is $30.00, You can buy the second pass for your "2nd car" for $5.00 at Sports Chalet and any place else that sells it, $35.00 for 2 adventure passes. Both of these passes(state and adventure) you can purchase anytime and is good for 12 months from date of purchase.

And that is my mentality on the subject.

I know it's a nature trail, open to everyone so to speak but the bottom line is somebody 'owns' it, somebody maintains it and somebody allows us to tear it up.
