Mountain Bikers,
This has been one very hard bike to order up the past 15 months. Last November, I was trying to purchase this new improved body style as a complete bike. I was after the "D kit" which is just has basic components w/ a Tora front fork. I just found out last week Santa Cruz is offering the 08's early in this model. And they've improved a couple different areas again. Here in San Diego, CA MTB warehouse is mentioning they can order one up. The only downfall is I would have to pay the full amount and wait a month or two before it's delivered. I've never test ridden any of the XC Santa Cruz setups because there never in stock. Buddy of mine has the 04 Heckler XL and it's way too large to get a feel for it. On Santa Cruz website it's still displays the 2007's. I've even tried to sent emails to their sales team and they haven't responded back as of yet. If you know anything about this 2008 ride? Please shoot me an email. I'm sure their are other SC owners in the forum. Thanks for reading. ![]() |

I'd be hesitant to put down all that money on a bike that you've never ridden. I just bought an 04 SuperLight and so far I've been pretty impressed. I know the frame isn't the same anymore, but I don't think you can go wrong with it as an xc machine!
I think Switchback Cyclery in Orange may have a few. There is a bubb on this site who can probably chime in and give ya the details. |

Guero,
Quick question about your 04? Are the disk rotors on this ride 5" or less than standard 6"? A buddy was just explaining / complaining about this area. I'm very interested in the new Superlight if the changes are true. In 2007 they changed out the rear part of the frame. I just can't find out enough about it till today. And YES I'm going to call that bike shop and question up ) Thanks for that recommendation. I might go new or just continue to shop around for that XC set up used and save a couple hundred $$$$. Have a good one. |

I've met very few people who haven't been totally stoked with their SC purchases. I've never owned one but demo'ed one for a couple weeks and was very impressed with their single pivot design. Now they have the VPP which I'm told is even better. I really don't think you can go wrong with this product, but I'd split with some more cash and go with better componets. You can't beat the built bike price with top quality componets.
Good luck.

All I can say is expect a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG wait! It took almost 4 months to get my Heckler (Well worth the wait). I was told it would be 2 weeks, then 2 more, then two more, and so on. SC is known for making people wait. The last story I got from them while I was waiting for mine was that the shipping container was held up in customs from Tiawan.
If you're looking for info about an '08 SL contact Danny Ward. He's the SoCal rep at SC. danny@santacruzbicycles.com

SC does not do model years. So there is technically no '07 or '08 model. SC redesigned the Superlight during the '07 model year. That frame is the same frame that they are now shipping. Only thing that really differentiates between different model years is the components that they hang on the bike. Right now '08 components are coming on all SC bikes. The one you are seeing on the website is the current model. We have been a SC dealer for 8 years and have had very few SC buyers unhappy at the bike, even if they didn't have a chance to ride it first. The "08 spec'd Superlight in the D kit is a really nice bike. The only real spot to look to upgrade would be the fork. Otherwise, they do come in at just under 30 lbs depending on the pedals you run. If you have any other questions, just ask. mtnbikej Quote:
Wait time vary. For example I called SC twice this week to order bikes. Both were in stock. SC is getting way better about thier delivery dates. |

When I got my bike they had a '08 SL in Med or Lrg at the KM store I ride an XL which is why I looked. I wanted to demo the new SL. It had arrived that day. You might want to call them and have them check there inventory for all the stores again. I know they go fast but they must have one on-hold for someone or coming in soon that you can demo. |

Seriously. That would have to be one hell of a bike to wait months to get it. There are plenty of great XC bikes out there that are probably comparable. But if you gotta have the SC Superlight, hey, more power to you.
