Doug i'm soooo stoked about this you dont even know!
Question is with the eminent rain coming...how long do county parks stay closed? Do state parks remain open? I need to get my riding on this weekend and if i cant i will go into shock. |

Depends on the amount of rain. Whiting will be closed for 2 to 3 days after rains. Aliso at least a day. You can call the park and get updates on conditions and closures. Aliso; 949-923-2200, Whiting; 949-923-2245. The "Pain Divide" never closes.

Rain = Time to hit the San Gabriels. Just stay out of the washs. Besides I need to go finish the Strawberry Ride I broke my 5-Spot frame on.

The trails are so dry, a lot of the first rains are just going to be soaked up into the ground. The wait time to ride might be shorter the first couple of rains.
I was riding El Moro yesterday and thinking it'll take at least a couple of inches of rain just to pack down the deep powder in some areas. I don't think we'll get enough to do that, but I take all the rain we can get.

Just remember guys/gals not to hit the trails while it's raining or right after. Some trails you can ride the next day (most the San Gabes) but other places with a high clay content and it could be soggy for days. Check around before you hit a trail.

Here's the latest from Fritz Coleman:
"The L.A. Basin will see the action Friday afternoon and night into Saturday morning. This will be a cold, showery storm. Highly variable rainfall amounts. 1/2 inch to 1 inch in the coastal plain...to as much as 3 inches in the hills. Thunderstorms are alos a possiblity with all of the dangerous weather involved. Snow will be just a dusting...but, could fall as low as 6,000 feet....very odd for this time of year. Clearing will start by Saturday afternoon!" |
