Great thread Ethan. I wish all you guys the best of luck. Being in the airline industry, I've been laidoff twice and used to hearing threats of another. Laid off in 99, and again in 2001(because of 9-11). I've had to transfer to 4 airports since 1998, LAX, FAT, back to LAX, SFO and now SNA(John Wayne). Hang in there and best of luck to all.

Gene I flew US Air this last weekend and the only time I hate flying is when we land well as I was landing last weekend I was thinking I hope Gene did not skip any corners on this plane if he worked on it.

Remember that job postings are a description of a dream candidate. If you feel you are strong in 51% or more of the requirements submit your resume.

Many times the post is to replace two or more people. Also don't sell yourself short. I have given resume and interview seminars and was amazed at how many people under sold themselves.

Remember they need someone to fill that job. If not they wouldn't have posted the position So don't feel bad about asking for more money or benefits if your think your a good fix.

slowSSer,

Just what do you do in the environemtnal industry? I spent 16 years in that field and still have a few contacts. Do you know any thing about Thermal Oxidizers? If so I could give you a lead.

I didn't want to be the first but if you find anything here at AT&T you like send me your resume and I will submit it with a referal. I have a new bike but I guess you can never have to many bikes right Doug/PacMan?

Oh, and the college I work for is also looking for part-time evening JAVA (intro & jsp) programming teachers. All the good ones are in the real world making six figures. If you know JAVA really well and have some work experience in the San Diego area let me know I can email your resume to the right people.

my advice --> stay in school and become a professional student. Working is very lame, seriously. You have no idea how good you had it in college till you have a supposed "real" job. As such, I may very well be telling my wife I am going back to school and will be starting a fraternity in fact.

no on the thermal oxidizer- I'm on the environmental/urban planning side of things. actually, for the last few companies, I've been doing telecom environmental. so, basically, we're the guys that do the documents that allow the fake azz trees to be built that make your cell reception supposedly better.

(yes, the guys in the hard hats in the verizon adds- that'd be me)

I specialize in Website Marketing. The problem I'm having is that a lot of postings are now including the marketing and programming and I'm not a programmer. I have very little HTML & Dreamweaver experience. So I need to work for a mid-size to larger company who already has a programmer, but who understands the value of having someone run the marketing end of their web site.

I setup business development opportunities to help drive more sales to the site. Manage email campaigns, affiliate programs, paid search terms, organic search optimization and just working on the user experience and making recommendations for improvements to the overall site.

If anyone knows of any jobs out there in this capacity I'd greatly appreciate the help. I'm at a director level, but would be fine w/ a manager role for a good, solid company that is fun to work for and that will let me leave work to go mtn biking

Good luck to the rest of you! BTW -- for those of you who don't know of the site, I've found some interesting job listings in the Action Sports Industry on www.malakye.com

Sounds a lot like my job except I also do PHP programming, html/css, and MySql database stuff. And I'm at a startup, not mid/large sized. A lot of job postings for stuff that I do 'require' a degree although I have lots of good experience. My current job was posted as full time and degree as a requirement. I was hired even though I don't have a degree yet and can only do part time half the year

I'm always looking for better opportunities though ...

I quit my job in March and have never been happier. I'm dreading when the time comes to start working again...

I'm considering changing fields completely. Maybe be a mail carrier? All the carriers I've talked to are happy as hell with their job...hmm. Gotta finish the degree first...I'll finally be done in December!
