Default Wacky bike related bloopers and blunders....

Race gone wrong:
Rim Nordic, '02-

Frogot my bottles but managed to get a feed from a bud out on the course. I was really dying and super thirsty. As I lifted the bottle to my lips I noticed it was quite cold, took a couple of gulps to realise......it was BEER!
Nice. Gave me the wrong bottle, or, maybe it was the right one? Hehehe. *whaaarf!*

After battling for third I took the sprint at the very end and celebrated by riding a stoppie accross the finish line...I was moving pretty good, didn't notice this rock ...it ripped the bar from my hands and knocked it sideways, launcing me over the bar and on my head, back, arse. The bike then clanged me in the head on the way by and I came to rest at the feet of the Pro's staging area in a bloddy, dusty heap.

One of 'em told me he missed it and asked me if I'd do it over.

DOH!

Weeeeeeeee!

Thans mate!

Ok- here's another one.

Dedicated Cyclist had a killer Thrusday night MTB ride we did everyweek. After completeing same I was heading home on Coldwater Cyn Rd.

I was about 200 yrd from my house, hammering for a light for all I was worth when I noticed a palm frond (sp?).....ya know, those things with the giant thorns on 'em?

So I make the light, bunny hop the palm thingy so I don't get a flat....but failed to notice my chain came off on the landing.

I went to continue the sprint but *whiiiing!* no resistance. My feet came out of the pedals, I went down on the top tube and handle bar, it crossed up and we went flying....

I layed in the street for a few, people driving around me and not stopping, then collected myself and Trigger and went in the house- I stopped about 50' from my house, almost on my door step, bleeding like a stuck pig from my right leg.

Still got the scar on top of my rt quad where the big ring got me (don't ask me how). But other than breaking my helmet, I barely got a scratch!

Talking Back in the "Good Old Days"...

They use to hold the NORBA World champpionships at Mammoth. I was competing there in the hill climb in I believe 1990 or 91?? At the end of the climb I was sprinting against another rider for 3rd place. We were battling neck and neck at 10,500 feet. I was determined not to let this guy pass me. My body went into severe oxygen debt.. started getting tunnel vision then finally I couldn't see anything and finally nothing. I came to with people all around picking me up. I found out later that I had such a terrible expression on my face that people actually backed away in fear and that at the last possible moment I had thrown my bike across the finish line while falling in front of the other rider, who also passed out. However, I did come in third!

I know a guy named Sladnas who was wheelie-ing on our Tuesday night ride and went out of control a little bit, straight into a verticle cliff wall. He had so much momentum, he actually started to go up it a little bit.

It was friggin' hysterical.

My own personal moment, was when my wife asked me to lead a bunch of her newb co-workers on a ride. While they were getting all their gear together in the PAVED parking lot at the trailhead, I was acting like the cool kid that I am while pulling off the best track stand of my life. All with a "it ain't nothin' but a thang folks, someday you'll be cool like me" sort of attitude. Well, there was a wet patch just in front of my front tire and--you guessed it: I went into the patch and my front wheel proceeded to slide out and jack-knife and I went face first onto the asphalt.

I remember it was like 96 when the fullerton loop skirted the driving range on harbor blvd. and there were these big woops going down into the parking lot of nationals sports bar. my buddy and i had caught up to some other riders at the top of cardiac climb (u know which one im talking about) and upon seeing my bike (dh) said i should go first. well i had done this ride and jumped those woops a million times. but this particular day i had to show off well u can guess what happened i hit the first two no prob i get to the third and proceeded to eat royal s**t and knock the wind out of me. the rest of the guys came rolling past i literally had to roll off the trail to get out of their way. from this day foward i wont do anything in front of alot of people for this very reason.

I was scheduled to assist in teaching a group of noobs some bike handling skills as well as trail etiquette. I showed up early and did a quick 4 mile loop then headed down to the parking lot where the class was meeting. As I reached the curb I thought I would wheelie off of it and smoothly ride it across the parking area. In hind-sight, not a great idea. I went straight back on to my ass, still clipped into my pedals. What I hadn't noticed was the group of people in the adjacent field watching me was the group I was about to teach how to ride a MTB

Talking One more black day....

I was spending a day biking with my wife at Snow Summit. I had been instructing her on some of the nuances of riding a chair lift as a mountain biker. After successfully loading the bikes on to the chair in front, we stepped out to wait for the chair... I was paying more attention to my wife than the chair. After insuring that she was safely aboard, I turned to sit as well and promptly fell out of the chair. My camelback had caught in the chair and it drug me a couple of feet before they stopped the chair....

It gets better....

Totally embrassed, I loaded back on the chair and rode to the top trying to think of a way I could blame my wife. After riding down the off ramp at the top... I was waiting for her while she went to the bathroom. While waiting I decided to show the other riders also waiting around just how good I was at trials. So good, in fact, while doing 180 jumps, I stuffed the front wheel in some rocks, fell into them and punctured my arm. I was sitting there with blood spurting out when my wife walked up and asked what I was doing on the ground again... off to the Big Bear ER we went...

But that's not all...

While I was there, they brought in a kid all cut up in an arm cast. His friend who had accompanied him into the ER explained that he had just bought a new motorcycle and had it in the living room on a stand. He had sat on it and started it up just to see if it would start and had gunned it. It came off the stand and went through the front window. Luckily, he had fallen off but broken his arm before the bike went through the window. They took him to the ER and had the arm set. Then returned home. A couple of friends had picked the motorcycle and mess up and had cleaned the gas & oil up with rags and towels. Some of the towels they threw in the toilet. The kid had come home & gone to the bathroom and had been sitting on the toilet when he threw a lighted cigarette into the toilet. It blew him through the glass shower door. Back to the ER they went & I could hear the doctors laughing in the ER while sewing him up.

I considered myself lucky that day!

Thumbs up Good sutff gang, keep it comin!

Trail Ride- Santa Monica's, 2000:

I was running sweep and pulled up in the group to see why everyone stopped.

The lead rider of 8 of us was trying to shoo a Rattler off the trail/fire road. Everyone was gathered round gawking as he walked up to it with a stick.

I told him to leave it be and get back on with the ride, the snake will prolly mosey on if left alone......this thing was p/o'd and buzzing away with his rattles.

I hadn't noticed but I cut my back tire sidewall and there was a bubble sneaking out......
I continued to tell my bud to knock it off and he was gonna get bitten if he didnt quit messing with the snake.
He turned to me as if to say "aww, whadda you know!"....then:

KABOOOOOOOOM!

The tube let go. The snake fled the scene, my bud with the stick jumped straight up trying to run in the air and the rest of us were running around in circles hoping the snake didn't 'land' on us, pawing at each other, screaming like little girls, freaking the hell out and tripping over each other and our bikes. It was total pandamonium for a few seconds.

Then we all settled down and had a giant laugh.

I got passed by a runner climbing Bane Canyon Road into CHSP about a month ago. I thought I was wailing away at the climb, when this fast runner in a red shirt passes me. There was no catching him either.

There was some redemption though. I was coming around a corner about 5 minutes later on another fire road and I see this same runner coming towards me with his shirt in his hand. He says, "I'm not going that way with a red shirt on. There's a bull over there."

I'm thinking, "I know they let cows graze in CHSP, but who would let a bull out into an open park?" I get around the corner and sure enough there is a long horned bovine waiting there...with utters.

I laughed, but I still couldn't pass that sum beesh on an uphill!
