Default Newb/ for fun race in Temecula

Is anyone interested in racing the 12 Hours of Temecula for fun in November? http://www.12hrsoftemecula.com/.

I did it in June and had a great time, told myself I would train hard and do better for November, but I didn't. I am thinking a four or Five man team would be fun. No fast guys or pressure to turn fast laps allowed, just going out there and doing your best and having fun. ( If suffering a bit is fun).

Let me know...

Last race I think the laps were like 10 miles, with a killer climb at the start and then it got easier. The course is different this time, but it is probably about the same.

Default Damn!!

No pressure? That sounds like a blast! And I live in Temecula, so that's in my back yard. But what sucks is that I'll be out of town until the 18th. Being a (very) newbie at this, I think it would be HUGE fun... as long as I could stay out of the REAL riders' way

My guess is similar to this:

http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=401

The other races they have held out there are XC shootouts and the course is 6.7mi long.

If people are interested in pre-riding the area let me know and we can all get something set up. There is another rider out there (tri.guy) that rides there quite often, and probably does the XTerra races out there so he could show us around.

We may even be able to get ranoaclan (the guy putting it together) to lead us around for one lap if I ask and he has enough of a heads up.

Anyone interested in 9/29 or 9/30 to go out and ride for a morning?

The thing that sucks about being slow is during a race I was constantly getting out of the way for others... then it makes it hard for ME to race

My advice.. especially since the majority of the course is double track and fire road, with a bit of singletrack thrown in... stay to the right on climbs and listen up for other riders. Remember, a better rider SHOULD be able to go around you no problem. Even if that means they have to take a more difficult line. If you are singletrack either climbing or descending and you know a faster rider is coming up behind you, wait until they are close enough and then pull to the side. Let them know your intentions (pulling over to the right/left) or if you can't move over due to terrain, just say, "I'll move over as soon as I can".

It's tough if you are constantly worrying about getting in others' way, but you also want to do your own race too, and they should realize that (whether they do or not, I dunno... ) Just stay out of my way and we'll be fine!! jk..

Yeah, +1 what Allison said. Also, everyone out there is pretty cool, the whole event just seems friendly. There were some Trek Team riders out there last time, and one of them was passing me on a climb and yelled out encouragement to me- I was clearly in pain and he was like "Keep pedaling, you've got this one!". Very cool, made me feel welcome at the race rather than in the way.

Ranoclan (Jason?), the guy who puts on the event, is also very cool. He was out there on the course making sure all was good during the race, and he would encourage people too. It is just a neat atmosphere.

The family and I are actually camping there at Vail Lake the weekend before... i was planning on riding the course at least a few times that weekend... it would be fun if others from STR were there at the same time... i could join up for a ride...

do they close the course before the race to prep the area???

I have hit this event the last 4 times and am extremely familiar with the routes but he has changed it up a bit.
I am planning on starting to preride the course after Interbike so lets set something up and get some folks out there!
I called Jason for some specifics on the course and he is going to email the info...no dam climb may mean a bunch of short, steep climbs...I hate climbing!

My anniversary is the 18th (going out of town), otherwise I would be in for sure.

I'd still like to ride Vail with everyone.

Allison--I have to work the 29th (at BB) but I could do the 30th.

But you'll probably end up being out of town and have to bail.

Did I say that out loud?
