![]() There are many reasons we choose to climb on the saddle and tear up the local singletrack. Meeting new and interesting people, de-stressing, losing weight or perhaps just trying to add a new mix of exercise to your bucket. In my case, I was bored and wanted to ride a bike again. An unintended side effect has been the lowering of my blood pressure from "you're going to die young" to "you are a normal healthy person." To put it in perspective...I'm 28 and the last blood pressure reading I had at the doctor's office before riding was 168/99, pulse 78. I now sit around 136/79, pulse 56 with a downward trend. Strong heart = longer life = more fulfilling life = more time to meet interesting people like you peeps on this board. Just thought I'd share some positive thoughts with everyone. Riding expands the health of your mind AND body. Keep it up, and be safe. ![]() |

Agreed, there are a ton of benefits; just this last weekend we had a deadline for work with lots of hours and weekend stuff going on. Managed to sneak out Sunday morning for a ride and had a blast. Ended up being just me with the ipod, but still good therapy!

Indeed. I started riding for the fun and have lost weight as a bonus. It doesn't feel like exercise because I am having so much fun.

What I find interesting is that there are quite a few people in that picture that are carrying a lot of excess weight... and so young too. You can see why this has become an epidemic with consequences. Just glad you've "seen the light" and trimmed down.

Ride More Talk Less

i think when you change hobbies you change your social circle. I'm sure you still stay in contact with some of these people but not so much. you have a new circle of friends that revolve your interest/passion (riding) and it motivates you to stay healthy etc. I know it has for me.
