Default Tara Llanes update

Did you guys hear about Tara . Check it out ..

On Saturday September 1st 2007, the mountain biking world suffered a tremendous tragedy. While competing in the Jeep King of the Mountain finale in Beaver Creek Colorado, one of the greatest athletes the sport has known, Tara Llanes, suffered a horrific crash during the first run of her semi-final heat. Tara was rushed to Vail Valley Hospital, then airlifted to Denver Health Hospital a short time later. Following seven hours of surgery to the back and spinal cord, it was determined she was paralyzed below the waist. Go to

I would be into that if we could "reasonably" assure that every dollar went directly to her.

Here is my thoughts...

I'd like to round up at LEAST $500 to MAYBE $1000 *if* possible, I plan on giving at least $50, and when we are ready to mail it off, make a STR jersey with Llanes pinted on the back as a show of support from the local MTB community...

I'm sure whoever does the jerseys could possibly do a one off jersey since it is for a charity reason, but thats up to George if he wants to do the jersey thing with the check...

Just my $.002

good idea. I'm willing to do $100.00 but I would be willing to forego the Jersey thing if it would mean more dollars to her fund. Maybe we can do a sticker thing that would be less expensive but more productive as more riders could have it for free and probably wouldnt mind putting on their person/rig. As a member of the DH community I can say with some certaintly that many would do this.

thoughts?

good ideas. i think it would be great to do a benefit ride and snap quite a few pix and maybe cut a short video of the events so she can see everyone in action supporting her road to recovery...might be more touching to her than just receiving a check...(not that she wouldnt appreciate just a check)

great idea. if we are going to do this, maybe we can wear something on our helmets or bikes in support. Does she have a favorite animal?

Broken Man raised around $4,000 for Tony G. I'm sure we could at least match that for Tara.

Well I didnt want to put pressure on people thinking they HAD to donate.... so $500-1000 is realistic I think, but of course more is always better

Also I think the jersey is a memorable touch to the check instead of decals, and if need be, I will help cover the expense of the jersey...

wow. this is f'd up news. wasn't aware. thanks for posting. I met Tara once as she was at LBS geting bike packed for race in Europe. She seemed way cool.

Her injury hit home for a bit too much for me. I'll be glad to contribute some cabbage to her rehab and hopeful full recovery.

george - you did a great job setting up a site for TG. since it appears there is already a site for Tara, maybe make this link a sticky or even put a click banner on home page for the next few weeks until money is rasied and event takes place like Neccros and Bret mentioned????
