George,

I would not worry too much about cyber infringements. Trademarks and copyrights can be pretty loose unless you are willing to spend some good time and money on it.

That's why when one registers a domain, it's best to also register as many similar names as possible that are close to yours….(although it means extra money spent).

Socaltrailriders.org is clearly different than socaltrailrider.org. And there's even a socaltrailriders.com that has not changed for several years, but it does not detract from your site.

You have created a very successful site which is proved time and time again by the people using it, and further demonstrated by the willingness of people to support it financially.

Also the Trailhead forum is additional proof of its success where it is evident that the group has grown to the point where numerous group ride opportunities exist almost every weekend, and the presence of STR riders is evident at many other club events and races.

Bottom line.....Imitation is the best form of flattery. I would just consider anyone who wants to try to imitate this site or capitalize on its name as a compliment; and I don't think you would ever have to worry about the group or "Tribe" as OMR puts it dwindling or drifting away.

Keep up the good work.

See ya on the trails

Sorry, I gotta get all nerdy for a second here. George, did you look at his "request a quote" page? The only reason I noticed it was because I was going to be a smart as and request a quote for a rip off of a local mountain biking website But damn, for someone who has the balls to advertise himself with crap like,
Quote:
I think of myself as more than just a valuable asset, but an entrepreneur that understands how and why businesses work. I bring value to businesses with a broad base of experience.

I specialize in turning goals into reality. As a programmer, I've built more websites than I can recall
You'd figgure the self proclaimed guru could run a simple formmail cgi script to keep you from having to download a word doc, type the crap back in, then send it back to him. Programmers write applications. 10 year olds with a copy of Front Page or Dreamweaver build sites like his personal deal.

And did you get a load of this crap
Quote:
Not many people have the opportunity to experience all facets of doing business on the Internet. As an owner of many web based properties myself, I understand what it takes to build an online business, fine tune it, and market it for success.
Web based properties... See my previous post about asshats who go around grabbing up domains because they associate them directly or indirectly with self worth

Okay, nerdy rant off. PainFreak is right, this guy should get a swift kick to the nuts. If for no other reason than to knock some of the piss out of him as he seems to be a little full of himself.

It's all been discussed already, so I won't rehash, but yeah, this guy is a chump, plain and simple. He needs his "Man Card" revoked.

My sister ran a pretty popular page for a musician a few years back. Some guy in Russia took her site and basically stole it--he copied the whole thing and translated it into Russian and recreated her site as his own personal fan site, pictures and all.

My sis and the musician ended up just letting it go because they didn't have the time, energy or resources to fight the guy over it.

Whatever you choose to do George, we're all behind you.

If anyone wants to help out and at least report him to google adsense (the ad network) ...
  1. go to his website www.3fbc.com
  2. scroll to the bottom where the google ad is
  3. Click on "Ads by Google"
  4. At the new google page, go to the bottom and click on "Send Google your thoughts on the site or the ads you just saw"
  5. then click on "Also Report a Violation?"
Thanks

Default This is some of the crap this guy is talking.

I think we should all report him!! this guy is a scammer spammer. I now blame him for all my advertisements and pop ups ha ha .

He is my new anger management consultant.
First I just make a couple of little calls then its on.

Here is the link. I posted a big letter and it didn't show up hmmm I wonder why?
Maybe it was because I said he a tool.

Banned From STR

After posting two rides to the calendar of another SoCal community message board, well known as “STR” for a Noble Canyon ride and a Mammoth Ride, I was banned by the owner of the website, George Gonzales.
Here’s the message I saw when I tried logging in tonight:

Let’s take a look at the opening statement of this website. It reads:

FAMILY? Are you completely off your rocker? It’s a message board. You don’t even organize rides. The only reason rides are on your automated calendar is because people like ME step up and LEAD RIDES. You haven’t got a clue about leading rides.
And what exactly is SPAM anyway? Well, since George apparently doesn’t know, here’s a clear definition of spam from WikiPedia.org.
Forum Spam
Spam is the posting of advertisements, abusive, or unneeded messages on Internet forums. It is generally posted by automated spambots.
So, is George trying to tell me that in a forum of mountain bikers that my ride announcements are (a) advertisements, (b) abusive, or (c) unneeded?
  1. I don’t make any money by volunteering my time to lead rides.
  2. Abusive? Hardly.
  3. Unneeded? Doubt that!
  4. Automated? Absolutely not
In part of George’s “Warning” message that he posted both in private and in public he stated that I should show respect for his forum.
RESPECT?

George, it was YOU who disrespected a member of the mountain biking community by arbitrarily calling my ride posting spam while allowing so many other people to post “SPAM” rides on your calendar.
And really, what’s the point of having an online calendar editable by the public if you’re not going to allow people to post to it?
And speaking of SPAM - How about all those email signatures including a link back to the Path bike shop? Let me see if I get this right. It’s not SPAM if its your buddies, right?
George, you have much to learn about this world at your ripe age of 23 - freshly graduated in the IT realm from CSULB. Here’s a sign of my “respect” for your punk ass.

First, I don't have a local nerd that's not medical related around here--the don't spend much time on the puter, but have other do it. Can you PM me?

Second, George, don't worry about this too much. I was part of the 3F group when he first started it on yahoo groups, but left when he had a bit of drama with another member.

Basically, from the emails Mark sent out, the jist of what happened was that someone disagreed with him, so Mark burned him in emails out to the group and banned him from the group. In other words, the same thing he's trying to do with you on his site. It seems that he's a bit self-righteous, ignorant, and has more anger issues than even I (which is quite an accomplishment).

So, please don't worry about him.
We all have our jerseys to represent.
We all know the real you and website.
Anyone that really wants to be involved with this group would soon find out that his is NOT anywhere near the same!

Personally, I think we've spent enough time on him and hope that no one else hits his website--thanks Jason, for posting it, to relieve us from having to click onto that trash

I posted a reply on the 3FBC blog. I wonder if it will get approved.

<LI class=alt id=comment-38>Your comment is awaiting moderation.
August 31st, 2007 at 6:49 am Mark,
I am a longtime member of the OutdoorsClub, a new member of SoCalTrailRiders and a member of 3FBC although I have not attended any of your events. I don’t know what is really going on here but it is interesting that you mention your website whenever you post events on the other sites, but you do not have a link to the other sites on your website. As an outsider it looks like you are trying to funnel people to your site. Maybe “spam” isn’t the right word to use but I can see why people running other websites (and devoting a lot of unpaid time to it) would not like this practice. We are all 1 big community and we need to support each other. Most of us are in more than 1 group and we all know people in all the groups.
This is your site and you are free to do whatever you want, but your personal attack is just hurting yourself and your group. There are reasons why STR is growing rapidly and the main reason is because of George. Over 1000 riders who were wondering what 3FBC was all about have probably recently decided that it isn’t a group they would like to be a part of.

I always like the thinking of - My Site - My Rules! Since we aren't forced to agree to T.O.S. when we sign up, or get a doo-hickey, George can ban anyone he wants at any time for any reason.

I think it helps keep people civil and respectful.

I think you guys are really making this a bigger deal then what it really is. I don't remember who posted earlier who said that he was part of 3f before, so at least this guy is a real mountain biker.

Stuff like this happens all the time, people try to capitalize on other successfull websites and try to make a few quick bucks.

I didn't know what happened anyway, Why did he get banned for putting a scheduled ride???

Because 90% of his posts here were his link following a one sentence post and he would talk trash on this website even before that. I did some research on him and found that he did this with all the other websites he went to - bikeforums, craigslist, ocregister, etc etc.

I asked him to take those links down but told him he could keep a text link in his sig. After playing dumb for a couple PM's he just said no and posted a thread to try and make me look bad and get sympathy from people here. That was pretty much strike three.
