Default Foo's Progress Report

As some of you may know, I started riding again back in July after a 3 year hiatus of being a bum. What I dont really share with folks (only my wife) is that the biggest factor(s) in me getting motivated into being active again was that I my blood test came back pretty alarming. My cholesterol was high, my blood sugar was high I was over weight (normally 170-175) at a not so healthy weight of 195

My wife put me on a strict regiment of oatmeal, we cut down on our red meat intake drastically to maybe 2 meals a week. Cut down on fatty things and refined sugar. I'm scheduled to go in for my blood work at the end of this month to check on my progress. I'm hoping it'll be impressive

But on the flip side I am very happy to report that i stood on my scale this morning to weigh myself and found that I am down to 185!!!! Friggin 10lbs!!!! I was so stoked; exercising is effective our family went from not being active to walking 3 times a week through Wood Canyon, me riding 3 days a week I never felt better considering there's no more smoking either for me.

Anyway, i wanted to share w/ my STR family my progress and joy!

Congratulations foo, I got on the bike because I wanted to loose weight also and ended up realizing I really like this sport. Good luck with the test.

it's also nice that once you start to see improvements, it motivates you more... you just have to keep working through the plateau's in your fitness, because you get stuck in one for awhile, then one day you realize you improved a bit.

Congrats! It's all about making the time and making the commitment to do it. We all have busy lives and busy work schedules but everyone can make the time if they want to better themselves. You made the choice, stuck to it and succeeded, good for you! STR seems to be a great place to assist people getting through their goals because of all the positive encouragement, motivation and friendship. Keep it up and hopefully it will rub off on some others!

you're absolutely right. for the first month or so i was kind of bummed out as i didnt notice any changes but noticed my fitness was getting better so i was perplexed. but it seems i've gone through that barrier and you're right it does feed the fire and totally gets me motivated.

Great news foo. I didn't have a weight problem and my numbers were always healthy, but I smoked for 27 years. I knew that those numbers wouldn't last so I quit smoking 4 years ago and haven't had the urge since. Quiting smoking was the best thing I've did to improve my health. Keep up the good work and you'll just start craving "heathly" things like more riding and other forms of exercise, especially when you see results.

i've learned that if you do everything in moderation you're goin to live a happier life. not knocking the guys and gals that are on strict regiments as they are training for things but for bloaks like me, eating sensibly and getting exercise keeps this aging bod ticking for a long time

wow Gene, i would have never thought you were a long time smoker as well. Yah i smoked since i was 16 and only because i kept getting bad bronchitis that it pushed me to stop smoking. Over one year now and you're right i dont crave it and i actually look forward to hikes w/ the family and rides!

I need to drop about 40-50 lbs myself but for me it needs to be more than just riding more... My biggest problem is food.. I eat too much crap and I need to learn the basics of cooking and eating at home more....

Any suggestions for a complete idiot??

it just takes discipline. it sucks because i know what you're saying i LOVE food. But i've learned to modify my diet in such a way that it doesnt taste like you're eating healthy. you just have to keep yourself in check it helps to have a great wife keeping you in check

Well my problem is not eating good stuff, its more of being motivated to make the stuff.. I swear if someone invented a healthy food place like a McDonalds, they would make millions
