So now that you are light and stuff, when are we riding!!
Just kidding but good job on the weight drop. As my screen name denotes I am not a small person and at my heaviest I was 280 lbs, smoking and drinking...it was getting out of control. Once Traci and I found out we were having a new addition to the family- Our pride and joy Madeline!- changes had to be made. I hit the gym, ate right and bought a bike. Within the first year I lost 40 lbs, the next year down another 15 lbs and year 3 I was at 217 lbs! I will go with Jose's point I am big boned, darn Polynesian genes!, so I wasn't going to get much lighter...I didn't know Latino's were big boned? ![]() ![]() anyhow I started racing road bikes, then mtb bikes and then we moved here! I have gained some poundage back, 15 lbs since we moved here almost 2 years ago but I blame the tasty food and beverage choices and that groovy socal lifestyle![]() All I can say is stick with, push yourself- if you don't have a HRM yet get one!- all the time...... I love challenges! See you on the trails! Neil

I am 230lb and I want to loose 30lbs. The reasons to loose the weight 1. Health 2. Make my riding more enjoyable. I really hate going to the gym so my main exercise is riding my bike, in fact it has gotten to the point that I am now riding my friend's road bike once to twice a week. I have always been big, but surprising my health is real good. I just had the physical and doctor was saying for all your physical sports injuries your health is real good and cholesteral is normal. Although now I am starting to see small signs of arthitis and I am only 34. I guess wrestling since the sixth grade and 12 years of rugby will do that. I know for me to optain my goal of loosing the 30 pounds I need to cut out the whiskey and vodka, way too much surgar. I have already cut out fast food (except Chipolte) I think if I was in Neil's predictament and with a kid I may cut out a lot of things in my life that are not the most healthiest. You have other more important things to live for besides yourself. Until then I will just try to hammer out the best I can.

The biking will definitely help your cholestorol number come down. I eat like crap, but with all the biking I do, I keep right around 147. My wife has started biking with me, and she loves how much energy she has the rest of her day, which means she burns even MORE calories.Anyways, good to hear another person praising the two-wheeled thingamajig ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Foofighter, good job dude. Keep it up. I managed to lose some lbs. this past year too and my cholesterol dropped 30points and my LDL/HDL ratio improved too. Neccros- Wish they had a Plutos down here like they do in the Bay Area. But I'd try to cut back on carbs, sugar, white rice/bread and replace that with green salads, vegetables and low fat protein like chicken breasts, fish, or tofu. Try to stay away from anything fried and maybe try eating more small meals every day. Hmm, maybe try to be good M-F and live a little on the weekends after a long day of riding! Carl |

and to further update. yesterday i went to get my blood drawn to have the full battery of test done, cholesterol, kidney, blood sugar, and thyroid; last time i had my blood work done was in March of this year. And the results are nothing but incredible.
Total cholesterol 188 vs 220 something before Blood Sugar 106 vs 220 something before LDL 113 HDL 35 Tryglyceride 199 I basically dropped over 30 points on my cholesterol and my blood sugar went drastically down. that's a testament to proper diet and exercising! This has been a very good week for me ![]() |
