Question Anyone have an '08 Reign X0???

I'm in the market for an All Mountain bike. I wanted to know if anyone has any ride time on the new Reign X0 and what do you think?

Clyde feedback is preferable since I'm 6'4" and 260lbs. I like the X0 because of the "lightweight ALUXX SL alloy tubeset reinforced for large hits" which means normal riding for someone my weight.

I have an '05 regular Riegn... I'd go for the Reign 1/2 over the X if I were you. The X is more DH/Freeride than the regular, although the regular is still beefy.

The extra size/weight can be annoying on trails like Sycamore, especially coming from an SC Superlight. Just my $.02.

BW is trying to find me a Reign 0 in XL but they have the Reign X0 in L (X0 doesn't come in XL) on-hand. I'll demo both but I might just buy the X0 frameset since they don't sell the non-X frameset and put an XC build group on it with a 32 Talas or something and a light wheelset.

If I really need to shave some pounds for the long Noble climbs and someday SART climbs I guess I could shed the 20-30 extra lbs I carry around my waste.

I just want something I can take to TW or LC and not worry about pulling a Spec-Ed and torquing my seat tube in half on the climb back out.

I will still have the Superlight so if I need to hit something on my 3.5" XC bike I can. Even that bike is beefed up at about 32 lbs.

I was cruising through Jones bikes in Long Beach/Belmont Shores a few weeks ago while we were waiting to meet up with my father in law for dinner. It looked like they had some of the 08 Giants on the floor and I could swear I saw an XO, but I could have been mistaken. I've never bought anything there so I couldn't tell you about service/pricing etc. but it's a place to look.

Now that's a sweet set up..... one light XC bike, and one heavier AM bike. You'll probaly want a 36 TALAS on an X frame though. BTW, I'm riding LC Saturday morning if your down.

I still say the Reign X is too much bike for you. That thing is a friggin tank and VERY heavy. I don't see how you could ever break the standard Reign frame. TKBlazer races his at Southridge for cryin' out loud. Granted he is lighter than you, but let's stay realistic about the type of riding we do.

I have no reservations about running my Reign at TW or Noble, and I would still say that if I never lost any weight and was still at 270 lbs.

Even in the very unlikely scenario you break the frame, I've heard Giant is one of the best companies in terms of standing behind their equipment and providing speedy replacements for frame failures.

I agree. Unless your going to start hitting road gaps, I'd go for a complete Reign 1 or 2. The Reign is perfect for LC, perfect for Noble, even good for ATT if don't hit the big stunts.

For T-Dub however, you'll probaly want something that can handle some serious sand, like this guy:

I don't huck and I'm not looking for a hucking machine just something that isn't going to bend and flex like other bikes I have had.

I'm going to follow up with BW today and if they can find an Reign 0 in XL I might just go that route. The Turner Spot has a longer ST but the Reign has a longer TT. I would need a set back seat post to get my knees in the right position but that might be the better route. Then I can swap out the heavy parts for the lighter ones I have.

Maybe I'll just get a Yeti 575...

I met a guy Idyllwild that has one of these. It's his grocery getter during the winter weeks. I think it has 4" studded tires on it.

The other bikes you had are a HT and a Superlight. Hardly a comparison of today's 5"+ FS bikes.

I will go out on a limb and say that most bikes that offer 5" of travel and up aren't going to be flexy. Don't forget that I rode my Reign and my Yeti before I lost any weight and they never felt flexy--not in the least. For that matter, my Enduro didn't either. My 4" travel Intense Tracer flexed like crazy--illustrating my point.

Don't forget--at 270 lbs, I was heavier than you are now and I guaranty I was torqueing harder than you.

I'm not trying to be an argumentative beesh here bro. You know I research and read everything, plus I have ridden the Reign X and the thing is a friggin TANK!! I would just hate to see you get a bike that you don't like and I really think the Reign X is too much bike for most people. I think the standard Reign would work good for you. Plus it got the sweet new frame redesign.

Just tryin' to look out for you bro

That would be a good choice too. Especially with the sweet new frame redesign. I don't know if the XL would be big enough for Tom though.

My brother-in-law had to wait a while for his. I think they have 90 days and (i think) it was over 45 days before he got the replacement part. I would like to say longer but I'm not positive.

My first non-Walmart MTB bike was a Giant Rincon. It's over 5 years old and currently being converted to an SS. I really liked that bike but wanted a FS.

Doing the math I have a 36" inseam which means I need a ~23" frame(ST). The main concern for me is the reach. I figure as long as the TT is 25" I can play with seat post and stem's as long as I can get my long legs positioned right over the pedals. The Heckler is only .5" smaller then the Reign but finding a Heckler in my size is hard. Actually finding any 5-6" travel bike in XL is almost impossible except for special order.

A 410mm Thomson should fit you perfectly on a Reign. I'm 6'5" and still have over two inches from max below the seat collar.

The issue I have is getting the seat forward over the pedals to suit me. It's fine but I have the seat about as far forward as it will go.

That would be me!

FYI: It's an obscure reference to an old "Married With Children" episode.

Nice! You helped me decide on the Reign, and the Zocchi AM via MTBR. I fgured there could only be so many clyde Reign riders named Jeff in So Cal.
