My buddy and I are going to do a road trip to Moab Sunday, April 27th through Saturday May 3rd, 2008.
I thought it would be cool to post it here to give ample notice to anyone who is interested in joining us. That way vacations can be planned, time off work, etc. I know it's still 8 months away, but time flies and reservations will need to be made in the next few months if you want to secure a place to stay. I've been twice so I know the area a little bit. I know a few good places to stay and a lot of good places to eat. We will be taking at least 2 trips to the Fruita/Grand Junction area to hit up those trails as well. It's only a 90 minute drive from Moab, so it's hard to be that close and not partake. I'll post it up in the Trailhead forum in a few months, but it's good to start planning early. The place where we stay--Canyonlands Campground--is usually all booked for April and May by late January, hence the early posting here. The Fruita Fat Tire Festival is April 24-27, so I'm planning around it. One could go early to hit it, but I've found it's best to plan to miss it so the trails are less crowded. Post here to let me know if you're interested. It would be cool if we could all stay in the same place or at least close by. ![]()

Meh...
Moab was just okay. I didn't get to ride the Cowboy trails (i think that is what they are called, they drop out of the LaSals and are supposed to be AWESOME). Porc Rim was fun, but not much real ST. Personally, Gooseberry is just as much fun if not more so. Now Fruita is worth a trip!!!!!! Hope you guys have a blast! Nothing is on par with Whistler! |

Damn, I can't even commit to a road trip this weekend, let alone next year!
Sounds like a fun trip! I went last year at the end of December. It was a little chilly, but it was awesome that no one was there. I camped at the campground near the Slickrock Trail, and we had the campgrounds to ourselves. We may do that again this year.

It just matters what kind of riding you prefer. I'm not really into the "going big" scene--I'm more of a "average trail" kind of guy, so Moab/Fruita works well for me. I'm sure Whistler has riding options that are XC/trail oriented too, but Moab is closer and cheaper.
