Hello,
I am planning on moving from Reno, NV to Anaheim Hills next week and had a couple of questions that I hope someone can help me with. I guess I should give you some background about me for the first question. I have only been riding for a couple of years and am strictly a wheels on the ground type of person. The only time my wheels have been off the ground was when my bike was flipping over my back . Anyway, the only trails I have ridden in Reno are up Peavine Mountain by way of Keystone and the Thomas Creek-Dry Pond-White's Creek loop. Hopefully, this will give some here an idea of the type of trails I have ridden. They are very rocky and sometimes pretty steep and rocky. From the pictures and videos that I have seen on this site, it seems to me that the trails in OC are mostly nice hard packed soil. Would you say that this is a fairly accurate description, especially relative to the above mentioned trails? The reason I ask about the trail conditions is that the steep rocky trials in Reno were taking a toll on my body when riding my hardtail. So I had planned on getting a FS bike. Now that I am moving to OC, I am wondering if I need to go to a FS bike. This brings me to my second question. The FS bike that I was thinking of getting is the Santa Cruz Heckler. I have not yet had a chance to try out the bike and so was wondering if anyone knew of a bike shop near Anaheim Hills that has the Heckler in stock. I will, of course, be calling around once I get down there, but I was hoping to get some leads as it seems, from the postings in another forum, Hecklers are hard to find in stock anywhere. My apologies for the length of this post and my thanks for any help. |

The conditions now aren't great because we haven't had rain in a LONG time. The trails are very loose. Anaheim hills is close to some great trails. Check out The Path and they can hook you up with a demo bike. Enjoy OC!

You'd be fine if you decided to get that bike.
Here's a list of a few bike shops in OC that carry Santa Cruz (not sure about the Huckler, but you could call and ask): Bike Co. Switchback Cyclery Incycle Chino/San Dimas Helen's Cycles Apparently Performance is a dealer, and I know that many Bicycle Warehouse locations in the San Diego area carry Santa Cruz stuff as well.
