I'm def no expert on these bikes, but it's the internet so I'll just pretend.

Considering the size of the rider and intended use, IMHO, it'd come down to the 575 or the XCL. Both can be built to suit a variety of needs and can handle a wide range of conditions and riding styles. And both are available from solid local dealers and are companies with a reputation for standing behind their products.

The new Reign seems much more DH/FR oriented, and doesn't seem like a bike I'd want to pedal uphill for extended durations.

The Specialized is nice, but I'm shying away more from them as they're going to proprietary components (forks, shocks, stems, etc) on more and more models.

I agree with those above who way it's a bit foolish to rush the decision based on a fairly arbitrary time frame. Take your time, demo bikes, invest wisely, and budget for the extras you'll need (inlcuding a bike rack)

the new reign frame is actually 1.5 lb lighter and the reign 1 is at about 30 lb for the stock build. The Reign X is their AM/FR bike that weighs about 35lb for the all coil and 33 lb for the all air suspension

I stand corrected - it was the Reign X I was thinking of. The specs on the Reign are pretty sweet. Thanks TK.

I was at Adrenaline today for quite some time and concluded on the Chumba XCL. Seems a little beefier and the overall ride felt a lot better than the 575.

Thanks for all the help everybody!

haha I guess I can't argue with that. But if it does break, prepare for drama!

It was nice to meet you. I basically hung around for a while doing nothing. But all the guys at Adrenaline are great to talk to.

Congrats on a great choice. What are the build specs?

I am deeply in lust with that bike and hope to bring one home myself soon. A prinout of the XCL web page is on our refrig as a subtle reminder to my wife of what I want for my birthday.

Be sure to post some pics here when you get her home.

Curtis, aka "M80kickflip" has had a 575 for 2 years and I don't think he's had any problems. He's ridden it down some pretty brutal stuff and it keeps going. It makes sick trails look easy when he's on the bike.

So far, so good. I am a master at rationalization and justification...things like "a new bike will give me greater control which equates to a safer mountain biking experience." Just gotta chip away at her until she's heard it enough times to start believing that want = need!

Of course the real trick is keeping her from using the same strategy in reverse for things like 6 pairs of shoes or a $250 haircut.

Well there you go, you need a bike for every type of riding like she need shoes for every type of occasion. Same thing, but then again, I'm not married.

Default Curtis also has a Chumba F4 and loves it .

He has had his eye on the med XCL for a while now.
When he recovers from his DH bike purchase he might be riding a XCL.

Sorry for the late response, The build specs are pretty much going to be the same as an Enduro kit on the Yeti 575 with a Talas fork and RP23 shock. The Chumba will cost me more (hopefully can get the price down a tad), but what had me sold as well was the great customer care that Chumba shows. Jason also gave me a positive ground on the bike to feel more confident in it and the future purchase. Plus they are pretty much local. I will be making a trip to Chumba on the upcoming Friday I think, to see what the place looks like.

But if price cannot fit my budge well enough, I may have to leave with a Yeti. Although either way I can't go wrong, Just wanted the Chumba mo
