You could get an Eduro SL Expert 07 for that money.

The Chumba Evo has my attention as well as the XCL.

IronHorse MKIII Comp

Giant Reign

Anything else that you would look into?
Whatever you do, don't buy a IH. We don't need another one in the IH army.

No seriously, buy George's 575 if you really want one and it's your size. You'll save some coin. BTW, have you tried riding all the bike listed? They are all going to fit differently and you'll be the one riding it, not us. So try to throw a leg over each one. I would not hesistate to add the Kona Dawg to your list. That's a great trail bike for the money and you should be able to find some smokin' deals on them right now.

no offense, but if you cant tell the difference between the xcl and the evo (if that is what your "why is that?" was referring to), i would reconsider dropping so much money on a bike...putting so much pressure on yourself to buy a rig by monday isnt very rational in my opinion. why is there such a rush? like i've said, ride as many bikes as you can. take notes on what you liked and disliked about them, which one has a firmer pedalling platform (which is very important in my book), which one feels more stable yet but not too heavy, which one feels more nimble yet not too fragile, etc...

bottom line is only YOU can decide what feels best. we all have our own opinions on what we think feels best and that is why many of us ride different styles and brands of bikes. you arent going to find a magic answer on any message board.

those are more like 60/40 DH.... the one like mines more a 50/50 mix... at least that what most reviewers wrote when I was researching Enduros

Do you live in Cerritos or San Diego? What are you gonna do once he leaves? If your budget is $2600+, you should factor in the other accessories you may need...like a bike rack. Worse case scenario, you can throw a blanket in your back seat, take your front and rear wheels off, and throw your bike there. It'll fit.

You have to remember that your results with the bike may vary. A lot of the folks that post on the MTBR forums are pro-caliber mountain bikers that routinely huck off of 87-foot cliffs before they go to work in the morning. They choose not to get caught up in the competitive circuit and want to keep their day jobs (or lack thereof).

Come on...you drive a Lexus. I'm sure you can scrape up some cash. Or you can sell your IS and get a Toyota Corolla. Wait...an IS300 is a Toyota Corolla, right?

Awww...my bad. I didn't mean to say that out loud.

if you're riding oaks tomorrow, you can take a spin on my reign... it is a fairly heavy trail bike at 35.6 lb tho. The Enduro SL is cool, but i'd wait on more revisions on the suspension. Yeti 575 seems to be a popular bike that can climb and descend. To be honest, just about every 5-6" travel bike will be good and you can't really go wrong. Try to demo each one out, but remember they will most likely not be all dialed in for you.

speaking from experience, i have ridden that bike at approx. 30lbs on all types of terrain and it is a great ONE bike to own.
Well Specialized made them more DH when they went to 6" of travel and left the 5" crown to the Stumpjumper when it gained 5" of travel from the previous 4"....

I have an article reviewing the 5" enduros and they said it was the best bike for both climbing and decending but when the 6" enduros came out, they said they lost a little bit of the climbing efficiency but gained more DH ability.....

Aside from my road bike, it's got the most miles of all my bikes so far this year, and I'd be willing to guess a good amount of the climbing ft. also.

I had a Stumpjumper before, and I wouldn't go back. The Enduro is a heavier bike, but IMO it climbs a lot better. Not to mention it's a LOT more fun to descend on. When I first rode it at Noble Canyon either late last year, or early this year, I was thinking to myself it was no wonder that hubby was a much better ride than I was; his bike had been helping him along!! The suspension just worked a lot better for me on the long technical stuff on Noble/Indian Creek.

I still don't think I've climbed it on San Juan, and I know I haven't on Holy Jim, but I imagine I'd feel better on those trails also.

That's why I've been picking it over even my Dos Niner, which is set up as a XC trail killing machine.

What about the Santa Cruz Heckler?

I feel like those aren't as popular in the OC as SD, but they're pretty sweet rides. In fact, if I had your budjet, I'd probaly be riding one of those, instead of the Reign.

I thought my Stumpjumper was an awesome bike but it was super twitchy on descents. It was efficient at climbing and made a good platform for a pretty light weight xc machine.
It'll be interesting to see how the Enduro compares. 5lbs heavier - might be getting something else to have as an XC weapon of choice in '08.

I wanted a lightweight XC type bike, but still comfy for a long ride and versatile for diferent types of terrain. I considered an Ellsworth Epiphany, Turner Flux, and Santa Cruz Superlight, but decided on a Yeti 575 with a lightweight build. I know I would have been happy with any of these bikes, but the price I got at Adrenalin was way less than the other bikes.
