Talking looking for a digital camera

i am currently looking for a new digital camera to document my adventures. i am looking for something that is light and sturdy (something that can take an unscheduled dismount, if they exist). no budget set....but i am looking for a good deal (good megapixel to $$$ ratio).

thanks for your firsthand reviews.

I use the Canon SD800 IS. I just ordered a camera "skin" for it also... makes it slightly more "durable" I think.

Camera is great. I've dropped it once from waist high. Justin accidentally "tossed" it once, and dropped it another time. It still works. Needs some TLC from the manufacturer, but I figured I'd wait until we weren't going on cool rides to send it in for an overhaul.

FWIW, it's been one of my best purchases over the past year. And, that's saying a lot.

Check out: http://www.socaltrailriders.org/foru...erts-help.html

Canon is the only way to go IMO. Anything over the sd400 will take really nice VGA video. Just find one in your price range . I like the digital elphs because of how portable they are.

Another vote for Canon. SD600 here. Canon takes great pics!
Anything over 5 MP is fairly unnecessary, unless you plan on making poster sized prints.
There are some great online deals out there.

I agree with all the Canon owners. It's a great choice. You just have to find the one with the megapixels, lens range, and size you will be happy with.

Default Olympus Stylus 770 SW

I have been researching this for a while and the Olympus Stylus 770 SW is great for an on trail camera.

It comes in a waterproof case good to 30 feet. So rain, snow and falls into stream crossings isn't a problem. They have skins and hard shells for them also. It has a big view finder on the back and good battery life.

Cool feature:
"MANOMETER.
The Stylus 770 SW features a built-in manometer that measures air and water pressure to calculate the altitude and depth of your photos."

My brother has one and the pictures are great. My brother has been into high end digital cameras for years and he said this one isn't bad for the price. Not that this is a high end camera but for a entry-to-mid level camera its not bad. Both my brother and I are long time Cannon fans but for MTBing, Diving, Kayaking or other rough adventure sports this camera is pretty nice. I found it online here for $280. I think they have a kit at Costco for the 720 SW too. Here is the DPReview link.

If you are looking for something cheap you could get one of those Digital Hero 3 Camera's for $140. They have ads in a bunch of bike rags. It does stills, and video. Not sure how good the quality is but they are for sale in all the Surf shops around me and they look pretty solid.

I am a professional photographer. Stick with Canon. Get whatever the latest iteration of the Digital Elph is at the time you buy. All my ride photos are taken with a Canon Digital Elph SD300, SD600, etc.

B&H out of New York has the best prices and no taxes

Or Samy's will usually match the B&H price if you want to buy locally.

So did you pick a camera yet???

I picked up the 770 SW in Blue from Fry's late Friday night. I spent Saturday at the beach with family and took a bunch of photos. They came out really well. The wife dropped the camera while kayaking and everything was good. Here is a sample picture taken in "Beach & Snow" mode with all the "digital" stuff turned off.

The original image was 3070x2304 but I shrunk it down to fit the post.
