Exclamation FYI: Some further info from Velo News:

For your own ride preparation, focus on your favorite sports drink to replace fluid and fuel. Sweat losses can be high in some cyclists, over 2 liters per hour. At your very best, your drinking efforts may only be minimizing the level of dehydration that can develop during a race. Aim for 1 gram of carbohydrate intake per kilogram of body weight per hour from your sports drink. Drinks with multiple sources of carbohydrate allow for a slightly higher amount of carbohydrate to absorbed through the small intestine. Liquids also tend to be the most appealing on hot racing days. You can add in gels as needed for longer stages.

After a long ride riders quickly down a recovery drink of mainly carbohydrate and some protein. Ideally 1.2 g of carbohydrate per kg of body weight should be consumed immediately after hard efforts. Ten to 15 grams of protein can be added to the mix to help with muscle repair. Sodium containing drinks also speed the rehydration process. Riders may snack steadily until dinnertime on sweets, fruits, and even soft drinks, with a focus on constant refueling. Muscle glycogen resynthesis is speediest immediately after exercise, but is still relatively elevated for 4 to 6 hours afterwards.

I picked up 6-7 packs of gu, 2 powerbars and 2 clif bars tonight and plan on getting a couple bottles of gatorade to take along and one large bottle.

It might be a lot of liquid to take but as you drink it, the pack gets lighter and the empty bottles weight almost nothing.

My buddy at work said he'd bring me a few of his so I could try them out as well.

I got some unsalted walnuts and raisins (from my daughters stash of little boxes) so far.

As in Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles? You've never been?!

GO NOW! It's a beautiful meal. Fried chicken goes perfectly with waffles. Go to the one on Pico and La Brea in LA. The rest are just not the same.

Up here in the High Desert, we affectionately nickname Clif Bars "Gut Bombs", as what you describe, is exactly how they feel in your gut! For me, a Clif Bar feels like you've eaten a pound of lead shot and it just painfully sits there like a coagulated cannonball in your gut. No thanks!

My bud, FFW will counter, that if you eat them slowly and chew very thoroughly, yes, you can eat a Clif Bar on a ride.

Believe it or not, my favorite bar for the last two years has been the Luna Bars! They are far lighter than the Clif Bars, way tastier and easier to eat on a ride. So what if they're for chicks? Though, sometimes, I feel a sudden urge to cry on the trails <8'''^)

OMG!!!! I'd would have NEVER thought of that!!!

I'll weight it against having that much more water in my camelback.

I froze the entire thing last night so that during the day I'll have cold water, since it will be hot.

but i think i can stick the beer in the side next to it.

I would not recomend freezing the whole thing... Might not thaw as soon as you are thirsty... I usually freezea slab about an inch thick and it stays cold all day....

If he froze it last night and it's in the fridge today and tomorrow it'll be fine.

OR if you put some Elete drops in it, it won't really freeze with the proper amount. Ice water doesn't really freeze. It may *appear* frozen, but once you squeeze it here and there it's really just slush and water.

We need a "thumbsup" smiley, btw.

I was just thinking if he left it in the freezer until sat morning... Rock Solid....

I second the thumbs up smiley idea.....

But do not get rid of or or matter of fact I see a space in the lower rt hand corner where one would fit without anything having to go away
