Will these tires fit on my bike?
I found a bit of damage in the sidewall in my rear and while I'm going to ride it till it pukes, I was thinking about getting a set of the Kenda's for when it does. I have 2.2's on now and was wondering if 2.6's will fit on my mountain bike? Is it a question of having a fork that provides clearance or are all forks pretty much designed the same? To be honest, I don't know much about mountain bike tires. I would get what I have now but jensonusa is having a special on the kendas. thanks jake

I have a stock 2004 Specialized Hard Rock Pro with a MZComp front fork (came on the bike)..
The Kenda's are Stick-E's and are 9$, which is why I was going to get a set. My riding style I really havnt figured out yet.. just like to ride whereever and have fun. Price was was caught my eye to be honest. I remember when I was a kid there was no distinction between what you rode.. it was pretty much ride anything unless you chicken out and have to walk it. Ah what it was like to be a kid back then.... I figured I'd have to get larger tubes, which is no big deal.

unless you are riding really aggressivley on technical trails i wouldn't recommend anything over a 2.35. if you are liking the kenda brand, check out the blue groove 2.35 for the front, it has a pretty wide profile and many of the bubbs around here are running them. a 2.6 front would be overkill for your bike if i recall what you ride.
there is a tire review thread in the market place or workshop forum, check it out and you'll find all kinds of useful info.

I doubt they will fit, but you should just measure your clearance. You probably don't need such a wide tire in the rear and may just be carrying dead weight. Wider up front is always nice when going downhill and taking tight turns.
I saw those Kenda's at Jenson. You might have a hard time finding a tube that will fill those tires. Whatever tube you have in your 2.2s probably won't fit these.

I checked their site and the mzcomp according to the diagram will take a 60mm tire. That puts it at 2.35 wide.
I doublechecked another fork in the same manual for a different model and it takes a 68 which makes it at 2.6. I guess I'll have to find another cheap set of tires. 9$/tire was looking good there for a few minutes.

For So Cal riding just get two Kenda Nevegal's in 2.1.
That, or go with a Specialized Resolution in the front and a 2.1 Nevegal for the rear. You'll thank me. ![]()

Geez. I've never had a problem with the Neve's and they're my fave AM tire. If you want a DH loose lock and load tire, get the Specialized Chunder 2.3's. Don't get me wrong.. I like my 29er ignitor, but it's not a Nevegal ![]()

can't beat the grip of a nevegal when it comes to climbing, but high wear, slow rolling and thin sidewalls are a few of its downfalls.

I think I'll just swing by a bike shop on the way home and see what they have in stock.
For me to order a tire or two and have them here by saturday morning might not be possible considering I don tknow what i want. Does anyone carry a spare tire with them on long rides?

I carry a lot of crap on rides, but never a spare tire. If you run Tubeless, you can always just throw a tube in there. If you slice a tire and the tube is popping out, put a cliff bar or power bar wrapper in between the tube and the tire and that should get you home.

I took my Nevegal off the back because of this. I may put in on if we ever get rain or do a DH shuttle run, but it felt as if I were carrying another person up the hill with me.
Good traction....just not rolling

by definition, better traction = more rolling resistance.
there is always a compromise. you want a slow @$$ tire, try a Specialized Enduro!!!! now those are SLOW. the Chunder is SLOW too, but it is a big DH tire. i personally really like nevegals on my bikes. the DH tires are not thin walled. |
