there is always a compromise.

you want a slow @$$ tire, try a Specialized Enduro!!!! now those are SLOW. the Chunder is SLOW too, but it is a big DH tire.

i personally really like nevegals on my bikes. the DH tires are not thin walled.

hahahahahahaha

The Enduro is what I have on my bike. It came with those tires when i bought it and I never figured them for being slow...

I swung by Performance tonight and bought two Panaracer Smoke Classic's 26x2.1. They were on sale for 15$ a pop.

I also couldn't find a SRAM chain quick-link thingy and the chains were on sale, so i got an 8spd chain that came with one.

not sure, but if you're running a 9 speed drive train, you MAY have some issues. Anyone out there want to help on this?!

I have a 8sp cassette and the front is a tripple ring...

I assume I just go by the rear cassette?

many thanks for double checking me... I appreciate it more than anyone realizes.

I'm by no means an expert and am learning this as I go along even though it's just a "bike". haha

I just dont want to be a burden on the trail when something breaks.. I want to be self sufficient and/or have something to help someone else if they need it.

It's all good!

Those Intense 909's weigh at least a pound more than most other tires. The 2.35's are 1225 grams! They look like they have good grip, but damn those are heavy.

funny inside story:
we went on a group ride and not one, but TWO guys on the ride found out during the ride that you occasionally need to replace brake pads.
hmmmm

my pads are practically brand new... how often do they need replaced?

I think? pads are cheap....

I have the shimano mechanical disc brakes that came stock on the bike.... I could stop by somewhere and get a extra set?

we just switched mine front to back!!!!......but could not have done it without help of fellow STR folk. But DO pay attention to your brake pads, especially disc brakes. thnx again mechmann for the work that day on Pain Divide/Trabuco I've not had that issue since and now have backup pads!

Yep, they are soft. I've been taxiing a mile or so on pavement for my neighborhood ride, and the wear is pretty obvious. On the other hand, they grip rocks very nicely and provide tons of climbing traction. I have to run the pressure up front pretty low (25-26psi) to avoid washing out in the loose stuff, however. Haven't pinched anything yet, even with some casual hucking.

My only other observation is that the Nevegal 2.1s seem wider than other 2.1s, so that might help out before stepping up to the 2.3.
