Default Kids Bikes

For those of you with kids and want to get them a bike you need to check out IBEX

http://www.ibexbikes.com/Bikes/ALP-320K-Details.html

Here are some reviews:

http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Kids/product_123933.shtml

I purchased this bike aver a year ago and still blown away by it. It is a full three or four pounds lighter than anything from Trek, Fisher, Giant, Kona, Specialized or any other make on the planet. And oh yea…..CHEAPER and a real M-bike just super small.

I lightened it up this more by putting lighter tires, tubes on it. Also purchased a blow-out seat post and bars from Performance for $5 each. I think this thing is down to 21lbs or so

I have no affiliation with IBEX just hate seeing parents buy their kids junk and then keep replacing it. When my 6 year old out grows this bike his 2 year old brother will ride it. Quality counts.

That’s it………just wanted to pass that along to anyone wanting to buy a kids bike.

My son has the Ibex Alpine 320 (20" wheels) and I'dd second the statement that they have a kick-arse line of kids bikes. You don't find many 20 inchers with a front derailleur and 3 rings.

I had plans to pass this one doown to his younger brother but the younger has hit a major growth spurt and is nearly the same size as his brother....and they are 2 years apart in age! Looks like 2 Ibex in the hose soon.

you have the 07 modelGota love that GREEN

My 6 year olds fave color is RED so I lucked out.

I spent a ton of $$$ on my 10 year olds bike (26" wheels) and now wish I would have purchased an IBEX for him

Green wasn't his first choice. He really wanted Blue. I had to start calling it Grinch Green (that's what Ventana calls the green that they use which is very similar) before he started liking it. Plus I found a sponge bob jersey that was green!

I hope the 08 isn't blue!!

Oh, this post is AWESOME! I have been trying to find something, anything, for my wee boy, Toby, but they are all pure unadulterated junk. Till I found this post. That IBEX looks fantastic (the rear-d looks absolutely huge paired with those 20" tires...).

I bought a Giant Reign for my elder, Willie. It's got 26ers on it, but wiht his size, and on the 13" frame, it looks like a 29er (!!)

The IBEX ain't exactly cheap at $299 (the Giant was only $335, and should last Willie quite a while), but Toby can join us on real rides on one of those green machines! I've tried to get him to ride with us, but his crappy little bike doesn't work too well. You can't tell from this angle, but his little bike is a real POS. He was pretty upset with me when I took this picture -- it was 102F out, and he couldn't climb the hill in front of us (steeper than it looks in the pic, BTW), and he was seriously starting to lose it... Poor kid.

I wonder if the wife will let me buy a $300 bike for my five-yr-old?...

Thanks again for the post. Excellent.

bad news is that the 07 is sold out and the 08 arrive in November.

$299 is a bunch of $$ for a kids bike but it is a real mtn bike. My son loves having the ability to adjust the front chainring on steep climbs which is something you can't do on most 20" kids bikes. It has allowed him to ride trails I would have never taken him on before.

During our ride yesderday my son was in the granny getting up some of the long climbs. No way in he!! he would have been able to do it with a single chain ring up front.

For me it was a no brainer. For example my 2 year is learning to ride on the bike that his two older brothers learned on. The additonal $100 compared to a Wal-Mart bike is worth it 10 fold

Ack! I had not noticed that. Ah, well. Perhaps I can make it work as a Christmas present if I play my cards right.

Thanks again. shud

That's exactly what I was thinking. Think my 5yr old will get one for Xmas.

Be sure to place your order as soon as they start accepting the pre-orders. I got the green one for $269 that way.

Default I went with Specialized Hotrock....

My son LOVES his Specialized Hotrock FSR. It has been a total lifesaver. It has front/rear suapension and 21 gears. Not too bad if you ask me. I upgraded him to some lo-rise bars, but will be giving him my carbon bars once I get my new ones! His bike rocks 24" tires. Luckily I got it for a song, because I could not possibly have afforded the sticker price. I saw a Kona Stinky with 24" wheels for kids, that was a fortune, but it looked like it was made for some abuse. If you have a kid that is into taking risks and jumping a ton, that would be the bike for him. My son isn't all that fond of leaving the ground as of yet!

There is a way better selection for kids bikes when you get to 24". But at 20" IBEX is the best

Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Do the girls in his class show him up a lot? Tell him you know how it feels, cuz Allison does the same to you!

Default Kids DH

I built this little DH rig for my Son when he was 8 for about $300. He's got a HotRock now at 11. It's a little more money, but a lot more bike! He saved some money up and was making some changes to it last night and can't wait 'til the next ride. It's awesome to see your kids enjoying what you enjoy, and doing it because they want to, not because you want them to... I'm a lucky Dad!
