I don't like to have earplugs while I ride. If I am on a fireroad, I want to be able to hear cars coming up behind me. If I am on tight single track, I want to listen to bikers coming from the opposite direction, If I am on the Santa Ana River Trail or in Cleveland National Forest, I want to be able to hear the mountain lions before they get me!
But in my car driving to the trailhead I have: Tool DefTones Perfect Circle Kitty Silversun Pickups The Distillers Hole Grunge classics mix w/STP, Soundgarden, Nirvana, etc. |

Lots of other options other than earbuds. I use the Azonic Surround Sound helmet and can still easily hear trail noise.

Single Track Mind
![]() |
When I was doing the Traverse, I was listening to "The Perfect Opera" or a compilation of classical music while doing looong climbing, it seems to keeps me mellow thus my heart rate down. On the descents, Rage Against the Machine, a compilation I put together. I don't have the volume up, so I can still hear what's around me.
I usually don't listen to music on single tracks or double tracks that has heavy traffic or on climbs like Rock-it or Meadows because of 2 way traffic. I have several playlist on my mp3(Creative Zen V plus). It's mostly alternative music(80's, 90's, now) |

I like to listen to the voices in my head.
Sometimes they get on me about climbing a 39lb bike up the steep stuff, and long fireroads, when I have a SWEET hardtail at home. When I get to the top, they sing, and sound a lot like Rainbow...."I'm the man on the Silver Mountain". ![]() Then they sing like crazy angels on crack when we start back down the steep, rocky stuff, on the same 39lb bike! ![]() Then when I crash, riding my hardtail, they chew me a new a$$, for not riding the 39lb bike. ![]() But in my car in listen to everything from Rob Zombie to Willie Nelson. I'd say Willie, and The FooFighters get the most playing time.

No music for me when I ride, I think its rude. When I pass by people and ring my bell and say hello and get no reply only to see that they have an ipod and are clueless to the world. Then I want to turn around and slap them upside the head and say "have a nice day". I saw a comercial on t.v. the other day for the ipod with people dancing around all over the place. I want to see somebody spoof that and have them dance in front of a bus lol

I don't ride with music, but I crank it up the way to my rides every time. Found a great band called Amon Amarth. Serious friggin viking metal. Check 'em out on you tube or myspace. Nobody does windmill headbanging like these guys.
