It was freakin' crazy.
One time I dropped a Diamondback down a trail. 10 minutes later, it was broken in half.

I love my 575. I have no intentions of getting a different frame. If the bike got stolen I would likely but the same bike again. I may put a few different parts on it but the set up is perfect for me.

I had a Specialized Enduro (the old one) before the 575 and ported parts over. My riding ability really increased after the switch. The more realized head angle, the extra travel (140mm Pike from 125 Vanilla), and 20mm fork were very noticeable. I still am not a big jumper but beyond that I have been able to ride pretty much all the stuff that I could not clean on my older bike. That is not to say there is stuff I still can't ride but this bike helped increase my riding abilities.

My set up:
2005 Yeti 575 Med. Anno Black w/ RP3
Pike Team 140mm
King/XM819 (rear) - Hugi Freeride 20mm/x321 (front)
Hope Mono Mini 180mm(rear) - Hope M4 (front) 200mm
XT
Race Face Evolve DH cranks
King headset
Thompson stem 70mm/0 deg
Gravity Dropper (4/1/full)

Here's a few pics of my 575.

This one's from Montona de Oro in the spring:

Thanks MTBMaven!

Those pictures are very inspiring towards pushing me to get the bike sooner.

Bottom line I think is that the 575 is a fantastic ride... I had one and loved the way it soaked up just about anything that I threw at it while climbing like a mountain goat, while all the while not being a "S" or a "G" word which increases the cool factor in my book... Just my opinion, please do not flame me for it....

I only had it a short while (before the 29er bug bit) but a solid rig Fo Sho

Strongly considering getting another yeti but an ASX this time...

Notice the Giant Reign is in the BACKGROUND of that first pic.

Also, being that I own both bikes, I can share a few quick facts. When I go out to my garage, the Yeti is constantly "little dogging" the Reign. It is also constantly punking the Reign for its lunch money and beating it up, all the while yelling "Go back to Hillcrest!!" whatever that means

It's all actually quite sad. It's like Superman picking on Forrest Gump.

Sorry, you must have not read the Mountain-Bike-Action-All-Mountain-Yeti 575/Giant Riegn-Shootout.

The Yeti got beaten so badly, the test rider is now in Tucson, AZ mental institution, and is slowly learning how to brush his teeth again. Yeah, it's like that.

(disclaimer: I hate Mountain Bike Action).

Default Great Bike!

The first thing I noticed was the funny hole in the top tube area.

I bought my 575 two years ago. At the time I was riding a 33 pound Santa Cruz Bullit as my main "trail" bike and wanted something lighter and more balanced for climbing and descending. I looked at a few light 5" bikes, but chose the 575 over the others for the extra travel and similar weight. It took a while to adapt to the DH as it's not as plush and HA is steeper than the bullit. But the climbing was so much better. I am really happy with the bike now and feel like it's great for going up and down. My 575 is built up at ~ 29 pounds.

Really? Glad I did not renew that subscription. Though I just ordered Road Bike Action. Read that thing cover to cover on my trip to China this summer. Actually a well done mag, unlike the dirt version.

Anyway, back to the article. THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THE GIANT BEATS THE YETI, NOT WAY (except Giant buys way more advertisement in MBA than Yeti does). To even put the two in the same league is a disgrace to the Yeti. I'm not trying to be elitist or anything. I built that Reign for a friend with a build kit from Price Point and a Marzochhi Freeride III fork with 150mm of travel. The thing rides like absolute shite. I don't know what it is but it sucks. I felt really bad and made some recommendations how to remedy the situation. He didn't seem to pick up mountain biking and never implemented the recommendations. I think the head angle is way to steep. Either way the set up on my Yeti blows the Reign out of the water IMO. It may be a set up thing????

Its not a set up thing... it's an in your head thing! It was right there in MBA! People have died.

And by the way, I've built up 5 Yeti's, and they all rode like wal-mart schwinns.

(if you havn't figured it out yet, this is all a joke! and, I made up that MBA thing, and, I've never even seen a Yeti in person, much less ridden one. I just like to talk smack)

I demoed one at Snow Summit a few weeks back. It was a great bike. Handled well, very light (easy to do wheelies).

The HA on the Reign is the same as the Yeti's I believe, if not even more slack. Your bud must've had the set-up wrong, because I think the Reign is one of the most underrated bikes out there. I love mine. My Yeti is lighter and feels more responsive than the Reign IMHO, but dollar for dollar, the Reign is right up there.

It must be. I built the bike for under $1,200. Again, build kit from Price Point, Marzocchi FR III, Avid mechanical discs. It was a sweet build for the price for sure. I just hated the way it rode. I have seen several other Reigns built with 150mm forks, it looks like your's is. The steering felt like the wheel would flop from one side to the other, no control.
