Steel cleats would cause your pedals to wear out quicker. That is a more expensive problem than changing cleats.

Just my $0.02.
is it just me or is there a super lag with the site? double posting wise.

I should mention, I have the [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=2]Shimano PD-M520 clipless pedals which came with my bike. They have a platform attachment that clips into the SPD on one side. It looks like it can be removed, but I need to figure out how so I can use both sides as clipless pedals. They are good pedals thus far.

Don't worry about it, you'll still be able crash regardless of your pedals. If you ain't crashin', you ain't ridin'.

Seriously, you might initially do some "tipping over" because of your inability to get out. And even after you get used to them, you'll probably STILL do a tip over on occassion. BUT... I think overall you'll crash LESS because your feet won't get bounced off the pedals and you'll be getting more power to the rear wheel.

Preference? I like Candys.

Justin ended up getting a shoe/pedal combo with the Sam Hill shoes from Blue Sky, and I ordered a pair of 8's from PricePoint (spread the love around - we've bought from The Path, Jenson, Blue Sky, and PricePoint this week).

I'm not sure the 8's will fit, though. ::fingers crossed::

50/50 with Five tens are the hook up , believe it or not , sometimes extremely sticky , dont count on the five tens for overall ankle support , I was wearing the high tops when I fractured my ankle on 04/30/07 ....

Hey everyone, quick question. So i have been looking into going clipless, and one thing still escapes me. So are the shimano and crank bros mechanisms interchangeable? I have noticed that most clipless shoes have a small bracket on the sole for mounting the attachment. Does that piece come with the peadals? is there an industry standard? will some shoes not work with some clips? and finally, if you get.....lets say the mallets from CB. and you decide to use your regular shoes and just use the platform, does the clip mech make that uncomfortable and unrideable? thanks all!
