When ever I'm riding my hands go numb. I don't grip the bars too tight unless I'm going down hill. Sometimes I can't make it stop cause I don't have enough time to put my hands over my head and shake it out. I get this a lot when I'm trail riding on my enduro motorcycle and man is it ever annoying. Could this be bad blood flow and a sign that my pumper is getting old. Could this be a sign that I may have carple tunnel syndrome, or however you spell it. Does anyone else have this problem? Just wondering if anyone has some suggestions on this as I never have had this problem until just about a year and half ago.

I was getting the same thing a while ago. Started using Pearl Izumi gloves with little gel packets down at the base of my hands and it stopped. Really.

Another thing you might try is rotating your handlebars forward slightly (or rearward if they're already forward). Not too much, just a little. I had the same problem and a slight adjustment to the angle of the bars fixed it (for me at least).

Both above are excellent suggestions. I've had an on going problem for years and was just about to drop some serious coin on a new handlebar when I bought some Ironman gloves. Never heard of the brand before, but they worked. Problem solved. What was happening was the blood flow was being cut off and then even my shoulder would become very sore. The new gloves (of which I bought 3 pairs) has a groove right down the middle with raised sides which lets the blood though, it worked!

I had the same problem, as my hands would go numb quite often on long rides. I had a pair of faded Specialized BG gloves (Body Geometry), that I hadn't worn for quite awhile and tried them out. They're a couple of years old and I wasn't wearing them, because the wrist strap velcro wouldn't stick all that well (they've redesigned them since).
That day, we did a long ride of about 24 miles and guess what? No numbness whatsoever. The next time I went to the LBS, I purchased two more pairs and they are great. The Specialized Gel models are especially comfy and when combined with the ODI Long Neck grips, you will be happy. http://www.odigrips.com/bmx_longneck.htm These are BMX grips and I even run the flange! But the packagings says "Ribbed for your pleasure" and indeed, the deep flexible and fine ribs are 'just right' squishy. I love em! Not only that, but they have a serious thick and hard cap on them that is screwed tight and protects the end of my carbon bars, way better than the little plugs. I also put a pair on my girlfriends Stumpy and she loves them. She got two pairs of the Specialized gloves and we're both cured. ![]() |

I appreciate all the GREAT idea's I will try them. I use fox gloves and they are pretty cheap, just payin' for the name. I couldn't refuse the deal 2 for 30 bones. They have ablolutely no padding and I was kind of figuring that may help if I had some padding. Thanks again!!!

What grips do you use now? My hands go numb with ODI Ruffians, but they feel great with the Rogues.

I had the same problem and I did 2 things:
1) Rotate my shifters and brake levers so that my wrists are pretty straight when riding. 2) Got a set of Ergon grips. Once adjusted to the right angle, they are awesome grips for my hands. They support my whole hand without and pressure points that cut off blood flow. The small bar ends are helpful too. If you make it to the Fully Loop ride this Thursday, you are more than welcome to check out these grips on my bike.
