Ya, I know--no worries.

BIKE magazine actually mentioned something about the "55" name coming about as a reference to Brian Lopes. I guess because his name has 5 letters in both the first and last?? They confirmed it's in reference to the travel--5.5", like the 66 is 6.6".

alank , i think you'll have a nice build going the way you described with shimano xt drivetrain and throw on a pair of fox 36 forks , you'll be set .

55 is Lopes racing number.... guess he has always used the number and he probably helped in the R&D for this fork...
